Kyle Dixon & Michael Stein “Stranger Things Vol. 1” Soundtrack Vinyl 2LP Available in 3 Different Colors

Kyle Dixon & Miahcel Stein Stranger Things Vol. 1 Soundtrack Vinyl 2LP

stranger_things_large

The Netflix smash that captivated many, and here is the music that played such a crucial part in the sci-fi greatness of it all. Survive (they just dropped an album, RR7349) is the name of the band, and two members (Kyle Dixon & Michael Stein) from it worked their analog-synth magic to cook up retro soundscapes that perfectly complemented the ’80s setting of the show. Stranger Things Vol. 1 Soundtrack is available now in three different colors, clear, clear black smoke, and black, but the biggest question remains, IS ELEVEN ALIVE OR DEAD?

Angelo Badalamenti Twin Peaks Soundtrack 180g Colored Vinyl LP PRE-ORDER

Angelo Badalamenti Twin Peaks Soundtrack 180g Colored Vinyl LP PRE-ORDER

twinpeaks-ost-main_eadea830-d9e2-4e7c-94e4-26c037baf9f2

How is it possible that this show got cancelled after only 2 seasons??? The early ’90s mystery/psychological thriller was a brand child of Mark Frost and David Lynch, and the surreal way it explored the lives of seemingly normal & upright lives of Twin Peaks (a fictional location set in Washington) residents resulted in some of the best (and certainly trippiest) TV moments. Twin Peaks was accompanied by music that perfectly reflected the moods and emotions of the storyline (it’s a David Lynch work, afterall), and for the first time in 25 years, Death Walts Recordings will reissue the soundtrack in 180g, “Damn Fine Coffee” brown vinyl. Angelo Badalamenti, the composer, adds extensive liner notes for the release, which features new artwork approved by Lynch. If you’re interested in the record, click here to get PRE-ORDER information, and here’s a one of the most memorable scenes from the show:

John Williams Star Wars – The Force Awakens Soundtrack (Holographic) Vinyl 2LP

John Williams Star Wars – The Force Awakens Soundtrack (Holographic) Vinyl 2LP

starwars-forceawaken (1)

The Force is certainly with this one. For fans of Star Wars and/or vinyl heads, here is a 3D hologram 2LP of John WilliamsThe Force Awakens Soundtrack. The epic Main Title theme is on here, and the rest of the sounds play a large role in creating the wonder and excitement that is Episode VII, but this release is especially remarkable because of the 3D hologram etching (Millenium Falcon and TIE Fighter!) on the non-music sides of the discs. Just peep the video below:

VERY EXCITING stuff. The record is pressed on 180g vinyl, and it comes housed in a gatefold sleeve that opens into a large image. Also included is a picture booklet of some of the memorable scenes from the film.

John Carpenter Limited-Edition Pic Discs

John Carpenter Assault on Precint 13 / The Fog (Pic Disc) Vinyl 12″

johncarpenter-assaultonprecint-pic

Assault on Precinct 13 is a John Carpenter classic, and like many other works of the cult director, it is distinguished by the music. Carpenter started scoring his own films out of necessity, but the director’s compositions are now recognized as a major element of his aesthetic. This limited pressing pic disc features the theme from the 1976 police thriller on a pic disc, and the music has been rerecorded by Carpenter and his Lost Themes bandmates. On the flip is the equally recognizable theme from the 1980 horror film The Fog.

John Carpenter Halloween / Escape From New York (Pic Disc) Vinyl 12″

johncarpenter-halloweenescapeny-pic

Also available as a limited-edition pic disc is an instantly-recognizable number from the first installment of the Halloween franchise. John Carpenter is known to have scored what was then an indie flick in just three days, and the piano and synth-driven main theme remains one of the movie’s highlights. On the b-side is the theme to the 1981 cult action film Escape from New York.

John Carpenter Pic Disc Vinyl 2×12″ Pack

We also have the pic disc pack available, with the above two records packaged in a convenient, money-saving bundle. And here’s a video of Carpenter rerecording the music for the above two releases:

Dave Blume & Bernard Herrmann Taxi Driver Soundtrack 180g Yellow Vinyl

Dave Blume and Bernard Herrmann Taxi Driver Soundtrack 180g Yellow Vinyl

Marin Scorsese’s Taxi Driver is an American popular culture benchmark, and the 1976 neo-noir classic featured a sountrack by Bernard Herrmann (Citizen Kane, Psycho, Vertigo, etc.). It would be the composer’s last as the frequent Alfred Hitchcock collaborator passed away in December of 1975, and this deluxe double LP, released for the 40th anniversary of the film, features the complete score by Herrmann for the first time ever in addition to the complete and remastered original 1976 soundtrack. Waxworks Records really did this proper, from the heavyweight old-style tip on gatefold jacket and the four page booklet to the 180g taxi cab yellow vinyl and new, exclusive, in-depth liner notes from Scorsese himself (also, the album art by Rich Kelly approved by the legendary director), and this release will be a welcome addition to any collection.

The LP is available now at Turntable Lab, and if you’re interested more soundtracks, please check here.

Every Tuesday we update our bestseller charts (“Lab Box Scores”) to keep you in the loop of what Labheads are buying. There’s two charts (music, non-music), and I’ll be analyzing each chart every week on the blog.

It’s all about the 12″ this time around. Vin Sol & Matrixxman’s “Couldn’t Love You More” remix takes top honors with ease. They’re followed by a grip of dance singles from producers like Moodymann and Buzz Compass. Of course soundtracks are still in it to win it with the Mallrats deadstock find taking second place!
