Rich Medina Rant at Do-Over

Aaron from Bastard Jazz posted this link to a FB video featuring Rich Medina handling a rude requester at the Do-Over. No need for play by play, watch for yourself.

If that kind of thing gets you excited, check out these two from the master, Kid Capri…

Kid Capri is a classic and that heckler probably deserved to be shouted down. But I have to admit that his tendency to skip through a 100 hot tracks in about 10 minutes is a pain in the ass.

Are we that ADD and incapable of jamming to a single groove for more than 30 seconds?

Don’t keep showing off how good you are at blending and mixing tracks – sometimes just let the music play. That’s one of the great lessons from David Mancuso – at the Loft, he went to the other extreme and let a record play all the way through.

I’m all for the djs educating the crowd on the spot. Since more people seem to think it’s ok to ask the dj to play a track they want to hear, it should be made more obvious to the unaware that they should just let djs do their thing in order to keep the party going. I’m sure Rich Medina wouldn’t have been so pissed if the requester didn’t flip him off. Because like he said, “…you’re flipping the whole party off…” The “Don’t Coach Kid Capri” video is still my favorite though.

This guy is so rude, period. A girl asks if he could play reggae and he went off the roof with hip hop club, hip hop people, you coaching me about what to play, put the spot light on you,.. Since when hip hop people wouldn’t dj reggae, funk, etc. It is fair that no dj likes requests, but don’t have to go so hard on people every time you get one. There has to be a level of respect on both sides.

Rich Medina needs some attention. Mad lame to stop the party like that.
