did you get the 1200(s) from a store? how did you get the money to pay for the 1200(s)?
So the story goes: I had about 500 cds stolen at a gig one night so i woke up the next day feeling like half my life was gone. Music is my life and I actually cried. Feeling terrible, I decided i was gonna go deeper into being a dj and I was going to purchase Technics to start DJing again.
One night telling my story to a friend, he told me he knew a guy who knew a mechanic who actually owned a pair of beat up old grey colored vinyl players. I instantly knew they could be Technics. Turns out that my friend only had the telephone number of a friend of this mechanic, so a called him and he was out of town. I waited about three days in desperation and when I finally got to speak to him, I not only got the mechanic’s phone number but actually an address. However, as nothing comes easy in life, his business was outside of town. I had to travel by bus for 2 hours plus a 20 minute walk.
When i finally got there, this mechanic kindly opens up a dusty old room full of car parts, oil and a dog bed. Not even the awful smell of a dirty old dog bed was enough to hold back my excitement of seeing a Technics turntable for the first time. When the mechanic finally pulled off an old rag from top of the turntable, my eyes almost shed a tear from all the happiness. It was like love at first sight like seeing the girl at school you have always had a crush on but always was to sissy to tell her.
Anyway we arranged a price for it which I think it was about $50. While i was pulling out my life savings from my wallet, this guy was questioning me why i didn’t just buy a cd player or an mp3 player instead of buying what he called this old piece of junk, (what an ignorant dumbass i was thinking inside my head) so i paid him and quickly left in fear of the mechanic changing his mind.
After another 20 minute walk carrying a Technics turntable (y’all know how heavy those things are) back to the bus, I had this great feeling that I had succeded in life. I couldn’t feel my arms, but i was so happy. Two weeks after that I sold the turntable to a friend in Mexico City for about $400 and purchased a pair on Craigslist for that price. Soon after that, Serato and all the DVS systems came along and the rest is history, but i haven’t stopped purchasing records of the Lab since then…. thank you.
