yes, the Manhattan store has never be the same after DJ Elle left for Miami (enter the Neil Nice Years!)… here we catch up with world class club dj and her new life in Miami

i think you told me this was the first time you’ve lived outside of nyc, how has the transition gone?
Yes it is, and it has gone mostly smooth… the first 6 months kinda felt like a vacation.. But I’ve been in Ny a lot since i moved, and its such a short trip its easy for me to come back home.

what do you miss most about nyc?
Friends & Fam, My Shopping Spots, all my favorite restaurants, and $10 manicures..

seems you got DJ gigs pretty quickly once you arrived, how’d you do that?
I’ve been coming down to Miami for years, I’ve had friends/ promoters in Miami before i moved down here, so that helped.
Plus being the baddest bitch from Ny doesn’t hurt. ha
is DJing in Miami different musically or stylistically?
Its a little different. I never heard people refer to djs as “open format” before i moved here. To me thats Top 40.. But i think Open format is sometimes the rule.. but thankfully not always, and i try to always play stuff that i personally love and think people should hear even if its not on radio. Theres a lot of different spots here that cater to different music styles sort of like NY.

do most Miami djs use serato or cdjs or something else?
I never touched a cd turntable before i moved here, and now im a pro. A lot of djs use cds, serato, trakor and i’ve seen torq. I still love and will always be a fan of vinyl. Also if Serato didn’t exist there would be a lot more quality djs.

do you ever drop your 90s NYC hip-hop sets down there? How does it go over?
Yes i do! and i did a crazy set the other night latenight at Love/Hate. People kinda trip out like where are you from and how do you know this. But its refreshing to be able to do that at certain spots and people really appreciate it. I have a all vinyl party coming up soon, those are always dope..
who are some of the good DJs down there?
Ls One, Contra, Induce, Ross One, Affect, Selfborn, Irie, Johnny Walker Red, Aliyo, K-Razor, Immortal, Aramis Vega, Daailo, Le Spam, Keen One, G.brown, Drop, Tom Laroc & more…

now that you live in Miami, what did you think of WMC this year?
Its was fun i loved seeing everyone and I was a little more selective with the parties i went to. My favorite party was The Fools Gold party at Grand central, but by the end of WMC i was ready for it be over.

any advice for DJs who want to do it as a profession?
Practice! keep your eye on the prize ,play what you want to play and love it.

what were you like in high school?
i was a good girl that ran track until 15, then i was just trying to stay awake and graduate because the night before i was at Twilo.
