my first 1200
what was your first turntable / setup?
My first turntable setup was an old deck that I don’t even remember what kind it was. It was one of those that had the mechanical arm where you could stack records on them and they dropped down. Shit was so jenky. It was that and some Panasonic straight arm turntable with no pitch. Absolutely terrible. Somehow I got my hands on a Technics SL-1300 so it was that and the Panasonic turntable and, with my trusty Radio Shack mixer I swore I was hot shit.
at what point did you get your first technics turntable(s)?
I got my first 1210 after about a year of working on that original setup. It sent my shit into overdrive.
did you get the 1200(s) from a store? how did you get the money to pay for the 1200(s)?
I bought both my turntables from the legendary Armand’s Records. I got them about a year apart from each other, and it was after working mad hours in a grocery store cutting lunch meat for old people.
how did you feel when you got your first technics turntable(s)?
Like I was ready to go. Seriously it’s like driving a Geo Metro for years and then getting behind the wheel of a Cadillac. Or better yet, a Sherman tank those things are built so fucking tough.
what is your favorite feature or aspect of the technics turntable?
The overall complete creative control. You can make the 1200 do anything you want it to do once you learn the ins and outs of it. That and the fact that it’s so damn sturdy and reliable. I’ve had mine for over 15 years and I’ve only have had to get them serviced once, and it was for minor wire wear. It deserves the title of “Industry Standard.”
