I remember for a lot of people WMC 2007 was the first time they met Mehdi. That night there was an Ed Banger party at Studio A, and then the afterparty was outside at PS14.
Mehdi spun and brought his positive energy ’til 10am. When the sun came up everyone just piled in for a group shot and was yelling and cheering… it was like nobody wanted it to end. There was no twitter and facebook, so these made the myspace rounds….everytime I would run into Mehdi after ’07 he was always a true gentleman. I remember being so geeked that he liked the Metal on Metal mixtape I did with Woodman and always wanted to ask him to do a remix for the new stuff I was trying to finish for ghostly..
In 2010 he told me about the new project with Riton and when I later heard and saw it was just like “this is sooo on point.”
His productions had a beautiful element of tuffness to them… just the right amount… almost as if you took a legendary house or hip hop producer from 1989 and told them to make it sound 2012.
But probably most memorable for the large amount of music people he touched was that he was 100% a DJ’s DJ.
You will be sorely missed.
