The Rolling Stones Reissues

The Rolling Stones Let It Bleed Colored Vinyl LP

Going strong since 1962 and getting better with age! The Rolling Stones are true living legends, and here’s a round-up of recent reissues of choice selections from the band’s catalog. Originally released in 1969, Let It Bleed is heavily influenced by gospel, blues and country, and the album contains classics like “Gimme Shelter” and “You Can’t Always Get What You Want.” This is the 2013 reissue of the LP, fully mastered and pressed on 180g clear vinyl.

The Rolling Stones Exile On Main St. 2LP

Exile On Main St. dropped as a double album in 1972, and it contains favorites like “Rocks Off,” “Rip This Joint,” “Shake Your Hips,” and “Tumbling Dice.” Widely considered one of the best works from Stones, the 18-tracker also finds itself on plenty of “greatest of all time” lists. Jagger, despite his “boredom” with rock & roll, is in top form, and Keith Richards shreds away with some of the rawest playing to be recorded.

The Rolling Stones Some Girls 180g Vinyl LP

The year was 1978 when The Rolling Stones released Some Girls, and disco was in full swing. In response, and as a result of Jagger being somewhat blase about rock & roll, the band incorporates bits of the glitzy genre into the album. The move ended up being very well received, and in addition to a Grammy nod, tracks like “Miss You,” Shattered,” and “Beast of Burden” continue to receive love.

The Chemical Brothers Indie Version Reissue Series

The Chemical Brothers Indie Version Reissues Series

Tom Rowlands and Ed Simons, collectively known as The Chemical Brothers, were instrumental in bringing big beat to the mainstream (alongside The Prodigy, Fatboy Slim, The Crystal Method), and here are limited, colored reissues of the duo’s albums. Only 1000 copies per title, and each release is hand-numbered. The duo’s 3rd album, Surrender, was originally released in 1995, and featured some big guests such as Noel Gallagher of Oasis. Come With Us followed in 2002 with a more streamlined “dance” sound, and Push The Button, released in 2005, brought home the first Grammy for the Manchester electronic outfit. We Are The Night dropped a year later in 2006, and Further is the 2009 full-length from the Chemical Brothers that featured no quest appearances. Big s/o to Astralwerks for pressing these up!

Massive Attack Reissues!

Massive Attack Blue Lines 180g Vinyl LP

Three seminal trip-hop releases from one of the main architects of the genre, Massive Attack. First up is the Bristol group’s 1991 debut, Blue Lines, which sees a proper 180g reissue. “Unfinished Symphony,” “Safe From Harm,” “Be Thankful,” and more are all here, complete with printed insert and a digital download card.

Massive Attack Protection Vinyl LP

Also back in print is the trio’s 1994 follow-up Protection. Another classic that defined the downtempo sound, tracks like “Karmacoma,” “Weather Storm,” “Spying Glass,” and of course, the title tune, still offer much to be enjoyed.

Massive Attack V Mad Professor No Protection Vinyl LP

The last of the Massive Attack reissues is a re-visioned edition of the aforementioned Protection, and the Mad Professor dubs out the album with mixing board tricks that make No Protection Vinyl LP a classic in its own right. Heads should know that this has been a pricey record to own, and this welcome reissue is the first since the album’s original release in 1995.

Hip-Hop Classics on 7″

Frankie Cutlass “Puerto Rico / Boriquas On The Set”

There is no doubt that there has been a huge spurt in 45-only djing, and here are 4 essential hip-hop releases to add to your arsenal. First up is one of the biggest NYC party anthems of the ’90s, “Puerto Rico” with “Boriquas On The Set” on the flip. This is the first time the Frankie Cutlass classic is available on a 7″, and the song still holds much potency, so act quick and make sure to cop doubles.

Raekown “Criminology” Vinyl 7″

Another 7″ that hit the site is Raekwon’s “Criminology” from his CLASSIC Only Built For Cuban Linx. RZA on production, and Ghostface Killah turns in a fine guest verse. On the flip is “Glaciers of Ice,” which features Mater Killer, and both songs are available for the first time on 7″.

The Beatnuts “Off The Books” Vinyl 7″

How incredible is the Buddy Baker “Sign Song”- sampling beat? Couple that with Big Pun‘s early, high respected verse, and “Off The Books” easily becomes one of the best and most successful from Psycho Les and JuJu.

Too Short “Blow The Whistle” Vinyl 7″

And last but certainly not least, here is a 2006 smash from the veteran Oakland MC Too Short. “Blow The Whistle” still bangs (“I go on and on”), and in addition Short going on “the people who can’t fucking hang,” Lil Jon’s bouncy production ensures maximum impact on the dancefloor.
