Some of you may have seen my live show which includes GranCentral on Saxophone/Efx and Cru Jonez on Drums/Sampler.
Cru recently dropped his debut 7" single, and the last batch of units are available here at the lab on limited green vinyl

After a long tour, we all finally have a show back home in BK on Aug 6th. I caught up with the man
for a quick Q & A:

M: What has been getting heavy rotation in your ipod lately?
CJ: I've been listening a lot to "Los Angeles" by Flying Lotus and also "Untrue" by Burial.  Both of these albums have such distinct sounds that are maintained through the entirety of the album, particularly "Untrue".  It sounds like different takes on a similar theme.  It reminds me of Photek's "Form and Function" in that way.  I was also bumping "Speakerboxxx" the other day.  I remember when that double album came out everybody was so floored by "The Love Below" that Speakerboxxx almost became like an afterthought, but that shit is so dope.  I love those horn arrangements, and the production is ridiculous.  Also, "Desire" by Pharoahe Monch.  He's the sickest.

M: Yeah-plus they rock a good amount of SP-1200 on "Speakerboxxx"
What foods are you feeling lately? Any neighborhood go-to's that you rock?
CJ: This new BBQ place is my neighborhood called Whiskey Sunday's is pretty good.  The brisket sandwich is dope, and they mash a hell of a sweet potato.  Nice beer selection, too.  A place like that a block from your house can get dangerous.

M: What sounds can we expect with your new Cru Jonez material?
CJ: I'm trying to aim for a more unified sound on this next album, kind of picking one aesthetic and running with it.  I guess the newer stuff is a bit more of a lo-fi, recorded in the basement kind of sound.  Sonically, I'm trying to match the grittiness of a lot of the late 50's-60's soul and jazz that I grew up listening to and mix that with some of the synthesized aspects and production techniques of modern electronic music.

M: I heard your live show is ill like Mister ill Dill Oil Spill (that was an old alias of mine). Where can the people catch you?
CJ: August 6th @ Public Assembly in Brooklyn! (check the flyer)
