Heading up to NY for a long weekend tomorrow. Catch me spinning at the Cubic Zirconia record release party at Santos on Thursday. Cubic Z + DJ Assault + Head Automatica + Dâm Funk? Where else can you catch all these completely disjointed acts all under one roof on the same night? This should be nuts. Also, cop the screenprinted show poster we made.
Check into these guys if you haven't yet... Friday I'll be at Savalas with Cousin Cole and The Heat (Jonny Blaze and Stereofaith) for Senari's monthly Panty Raid party.
Happy 4th of July.

I ain't mad at this event...there's some serious producer heavyweights on the panel and it certainly looks a helluva lot more productive than The Mixshow Power Summit ever was...but i think by far the best thing, Diddy is nowhere in site (taking full credit for songs he never produced) big up to Sha Money XL and Encore for taking the crown... -NN

"CAN I GET SOME HELP!?!??!" Hello Boy Genius Bloggermaniacs, You know I'm not big with embedding youtube clips, as i feel that the Lab Blog has way too many youtube posts (and flyers), but you GOTTA see this one. The Roots performed "How I Got Over" off their upcoming album on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon last night, and just absolutely murdered it! Look at the J.B.'s-esque formation and step!! Check out Thought steppin in his Air Force Ones towards the end. The Roots on Late Night is the best thing to happen to TV since the NBA paired GP and CWebb together on their network studio show ("Triple! Trizzle-dizzle!")

This last show was great - Exclusive peek at PPU's newest boogie 7" JP's Force - "Shake What You Got" (thank you Beautiful Swimmers!), New Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, New Theo Parrish, New Mayer Hawthorne, New Mos Def, and of course, some juicy picks from the crate... Andy Bey Also, if you stick around for the second half, NYC's Ron Morelli from EVR's No Flash show was nice enough to do a special guest set. He'll be joining us this friday at our new weekly at APT, with an arsenal of Chicago house, techno, dubbed out synth jams, and pumping disco rarities. Mention 'Off The Record' or 'Snack & Cmish' if they try to make you pay...

Anyone over the age of 21 who looks at this website can recite the theme to Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. My friend Adam Garcia recently put me up on the Italian overdubbed version... His co-worker Margherita just moved to Philly from Italy a couple of years ago and was kind enough to re-translate it back into English: "Willy, the Prince of Bel Air" This is the maxi-story about how my life Playing basketball with my friends I grew up Then my ball thrown a bit higher I prayed her implored her but to my uncle she wants me to go First class, it's a trip! Went to check out Major Lazer at SOB's Saturday night. Diplo & Switch didn't take the stage until just before 2am and it was at least 100 degrees in the venue but it really didn't seem like anyone cared. The place was packed and 77KLASH kept the crowd hype from start to finish. The visuals were on point (including the two sexy body gals dancing on stage btw.) Nina Sky as well as a few others performed and they even threw out a bunch of lazer guns into the audience. Pon De Floor was easily one of the biggest tunes of the night... And here's the official video for the current single called Hold The Line ft. Lex & Santigold... The album is out now and the vinyl/Cd is selling fairly well at the store so big up to Mad Decent on the continued success of the project. Btw-THANX FOR THE TIX REGGAE MONKEY! -NN

Twitter's so Winter '09... www.twitter.com/da_hardy_boyz NEW LAB RADIO (click box, duh!) This month I brought out the Swedish based duo SUPER VIRAL BROTHERS
I already blogged about these guys but i'll say something quick. Basically its one of the dudes from Dadalife making the beats (electroish) and this dude from Akron, OH singing (SA-RAish) and it equals up to the most feeling I've heard in dance music in a long time. So listen in and don't be afraid of Black people making music good again! otherwise we moved DANCE CLASS to one of my favorite spots in nyc, 205. Tonight we have my favorite west coaster (THEE) MIKE B!
Don’t forget you can now listen to the show on iTunes... iTunes → Radio → Dance → Turntable Lab LA Radio Other news... i've think i've been listening to this too much...

Nick Catchdubs and I just went to Australia. It's weird how a lot of the "underground" DJs associated with Turntable Lab are BIG down there. In the US it is a huge stretch for us to get played on commercial radio but when we go down there, it's nothing to do interviews on radio, TV, get magazine covers, and so forth. It's the P of the IM (that's Power of the Internet, Mister). Anyhow check out photos, my
interview in Sneaker Freaker (and Nick's) and my mix for Triple J (national radio in Australia) - http://www.flashinglightslightslights.com/dropbox/Ayres-JJJ.mp3 (right click - save target as). tracklist here. Well we're back now and Saturday is Ibiza by the Gowanus - an outdoor, all day Flashing Lights festival with an all-star cast of DJs spinning disco and house in the sunshine! Treasure Fingers, Roctakon, Dre Skull, Ayres & Catch, Anna Lunoe, RCMP, Nick Hook plus the world famous Red Hook Ballfields Huarache Vendor, Rave Juice, Rave Popsicles, and it's all going down at Bklyn Yard.

DJ Equal just sent me this interesting mix compiling some of the songs used in classic skate videos. I can probably speak for many DJs who were heavily influenced by all the eclectic sounds heard in skate flicks throughout the last 20 years. I remember the first time i saw Girl and Chocolate's "Mouse" video back in 96', i was blown away by all the original sample Funk & Soul bangers used in the film. An interesting story many of you might not know, DJ Eric Duncan who is one half of NYC's Rub n'Tug and DFA's Still Going was the guy responsible for compiling all those classic rare groove tunes for the video. He lived in L.A. with Keenan Milton (R.I.P) and Gino Ianucci at the time who were both prominent pro's featured in the film. Here is their short but very classic video part and a link to DJ Equal's excellent mix. Tracklisting is here -NN

Murked or Freaked?
Carradine, 72, was found naked in a closet in an upscale Bangkok hotel on Thursday with cords around his neck and his genitals. The police are checking DNA found on the cords, but say they found no signs of a struggle, suggesting that Carradine might have either tied himself up or submitted voluntarily to his incapacitation.

I only had a chance to investigate the window display, but i'm guessing this particular store specializes in first editions and signed copies. I don't collect them, but the selection had me drooling... so much historical weight. sorry, didn't write down the name or location, but it's near burger destination Corner Bistro.
