I
was in Japan last week hanging out with Roger Yamaha, seeing the sights, and DJing
a little bit. It was my first time going over there and it 100% lived up to the
hype - if you have a chance, go. The best part might have been the food - everything
was incredible but chicken
sashimi was the big surprise for me. ![]() The Tsujiki fish market starts at 5 AM and they sell 20 million dollars worth of fish (2000 tons) every day. We got up early and went to the tuna auctions. ![]() Kango & Roger Yamaha played with me at the Vice Party. ![]() Veronika at the Emperor's Palace, Kyoto. This place was the home to the emperors for 1000 years and burned down every 5 years or so. They finally banned fireworks in Kyoto after the last time it burned down. In Kyoto we stayed in a traditional Ryokan and slept on bedrolls on the floor. The propietor wore a kimono and full makeup, it was kind of nuts. This truck reminded me of Tampopo. ![]() Mount Fuji, as seen from the Shinkansin bullet train. ![]() Kyoto - Kiyomizu-dera Temple ![]() Tokyo at night. After 3 days in Kyoto I had gotten over a lot of the initial culture shock so Tokyo was a little bit of a letdown. "OK the entire city looks like Time Square and it's really busy, cool." But as we went around the city it crept up on us how crazy it is there. ![]() Yukio & Tomokazu from Vice Japan, Yas, his girl, and Paul P.O.L. Style took us out to eat every night and every restaurant was a banger. ![]() Fresh wasabi Eating sushi in NY now feels a little like going from Peter Lugers to McDonalds. Yes I know how obnoxious that sounds but it's true. We brought back a ton of Totoro souvenirs from the Ghibli Museum ![]() Ha ha ha ha ha, check out the bazaar... More pictures here Now I'm back and Flashing Lights is at Studio B this Friday with special guests Mixhell (ex Sepultura drummer Iggor Cavalera and his wife and producer Laima Leyton) from Brazil doing a live DJ / drum set. It's really a crazy show; for an introduction check out this clip on Youtube. And we have Fool's Gold records' Nacho Lovers on the set - listen to Fistfight from Nacho Lovers on this month's Rub Radio. Plus me, Nick Catchdubs, and Jubilee. RSVP at the Flashing Lights website to get it for cheap.
