Arthur Blythe - "The Grip"
this is my shit for days when i'm knee deep in illustrator and need something to free my mind of distraction. the cover is just beautiful. i can't get enough of India Navigation covers [see: "Metamorphosis" by Blythe as well]. features Steve Reid on drums.

Eddy Driver - "A L'Orgue Hammond"
this is one of those records you buy for just one song; and that song is "Black Knight." everyone knows it from that Beatnuts "Muchachacha" song. i sweated that song hard when it came out and it took forever for me to actually find this lp. ended up buying it from euroman about 4 years after the initial amazement.

Electronic - "Getting Away With It" 12"
no need to explain. Woody used it on one of his old mixes so go to his blog and download it. artwork by Peter Saville ftw.

New Jersey Drive Soundtrack EP
this has been my secret weapon over the years that never fails. just juggle the piano opener from the first note on the E Brothers song and whalah - you're Tony Toca. don't sleep on the OC & Organized Konfusion song either.

Joe Smooth - "Rejoice"
solid chicago house lp from '89. Renée Mohannon's voice on the song "I'm Not Givin Up" is my favorite.

The Mac - "The Game Is Thick" EP
put out on a record label that was a nail salon as well. mentor of the late Mac Dre, and ain't nutin nice. the Mac was also killed [in '91 i believe.] pour out some of that cuttybang for the 2 fallen crestsiders.

Webster Lewis - "8 for the 80's"
dude's wearing lipstick, i can't front. great modern soul with a couple boogie tracks as well. i always sing "Give Me Some Emotion" out loud in the car... you will too.

Jorge Robson & Lincoln Olivetti - "S/T"
i heard this at that Brasilian night at Black betty and lost it clapping my hands as hard as i could. soon after i purchased one of their mixtapes and lo and behold it was on there. "Aleluia" is the track that makes everyone dance and feel like their a part of some 80's Brasilian/southen baptist, crossover church.

PxMxWx - "Legalize: Pass the Weed" 12"
for Boy Genius - a little Cash Money steeze from the '9-3. produced by Fresh, DJ Indo, and DJ Crack Out. totally dipped in honey.
