I've been lucky enough to DJ in Budapest and Shanghai,
but NEVER have I dj'd in NEW JERSEY.

I made the 4 minute journey from World Trade Center to Jersey City

Did a guest set on Trent's show on 91.1FM WFMU. - Freeform radio at its finest.

When you enter the building you are greeted by a wall of cassettes.

after the show i got to see the stacks

when you hit the "J" section you see they've got every Jandek CD ever.

but even huger is

they've got every Jandek vinyl ever released (WFMU was an early supporter of his music) including the mega rare first album that Jandek pressed BEFORE he was Jandek. He was originally called "The Units" but had to change his name. (lab carries a really nice official reissue of this by the way..)

The hallways are a whole different story.

apparently the head of the station gets mad custom oil paintings made, then puts them up.

why not

Jesse "The Body" Ventura

it wouldnt be an official radio station without a) the DAT player and

b) the Teenage Fanclub sticker on the file cabinet

also on the wall was this certificate in a gold frame

there was no side door

and what would be a trip to WFMU without running into the likes of $mall ¢hange aka Small Sheeezey. The guy has a DJ trading card made after him for a reason.

we talked NYE hype. he's playing a big money gig in Philly then gonna spend his profits on coke. I'm gonna stick to NYC and play Le Poisson Rouge on Bleeker. we start at 2am and go til 8 !! Best sound and lights in Soho !
