What up,
Some of you may not know that before I was doing music, I went to school for journalism, studying to be a news anchor. Now that I'm in music I'm gonna try to do the news anchor thing. For 2009 I'll try to bring you some exclusive content...anything can happen.
To set it off is a quick interview with Matthew Dear, Drop The Lime, and Mike Servito. All three of them will DJ tomorrow night NYE afterhours at Le Poisson Rouge in lower Manhattan. Tickets are available here. Doors open at 2am and close at 8am with a continental breakfast. Then Blu Jemz is doing a 8am-4pm event TBA.

MDear1.jpg
Q & A with Matthew Dear
M: Are there any tunes (by other artists) that you for sure are itching to drop (or test) in your NYE set?
MD: I just made a new song with Seth Troxler last week. He was over in the studio and we got very creative.

M: Any tunes from your Body Language mix that have become staples for you?
MD: There are a lot of good songs from that compilation, but it's always a bit hard to play songs from a mix out again. People tend to think you're not digging deep enough if it's already been committed to print.

M: Any edits/dj tools that you use as secret weapons of your own?
MD: I've been making a lot of long loops in the studio, and playing them in between tracks. I like very long mixes and constant rhythms in my sets. Too many jump cuts and pre-positioned breakdowns tend to ruin the uniform feel of dance music. I like to get lost in a groove when I'm on the dance floor.

M: What's your usual response to people who make requests?
MD: I smile and pretend I can't hear them. Or just say, "You know, I didn't bring that tonight." It's hard for me to be mean. The worst is when they request a song during an Audion live set.

M: Where were you/what did you do on 12/31/99?
MD: I can't even remember. Probably somewhere in Detroit, counting how many time's I'd hear Prince that night.

M: What is your most memorable NYE ever? (whether you were performing or not)
MD: I played the countdown at Fabric last year in room one. It was very memorable. A big digital laser projected the clock on the stage. Everyone counted down and cheered loudly.
DTL1.jpg
Q & A with Drop The Lime
M: Are there any tunes (by other artists) that you for sure are itching to drop (no pun) in your NYE set?
DTL: There will be a handful of brand new upcoming Trouble & Bass Rec. & my new Curses! EP on Institubes. I may sing a cover of Joey Baloni's Heavy Hunky New Year as well...Al naturale

M: What did your parents say about you being on the cover of XLR8R? Any girls step to you with the quickness cause of that?
DTL: My parents were absolutely ecstatic, as they have always been my biggest support and inspiration. Ladies know that Venice is an unreachable never to be had place for the ordinary gal.

M: Do you shut them down, or keep them on ice?
DTL: tell them to battle galaxia terror

M: Any edits/dj tools that you use as secret weapons of your own?
DTL: Four Tops' "Standing In The Shadows Of Love" vs Curses! "Hungry for Love"

M: Do you still use those (as you called them) dollar bin 90s dance records that you ripped from vinyl? If so, were there any good ones that you feel stood the test of time.
DTL: Those will never leave the sets. My latest rediscovery has been bringing back dj sneaks strictly rhythm EPs. Even with the hiss, crackle and pop.

M: What's your usual response to people who make requests?
DTL: Hi five up high, hi five down low...nice to meet ya, Woops to slow

M: Where were you/what did you do on 12/31/99?
DTL: Wasn't there a massive snowstorm? I was house-party hopping in manhattan and ended up at a kid named nick foleys upper west side apt.

M: What is your most memorable NYE ever? (whether you were performing or not)
DTL: Montreal I love neon 2007. whole nyc crew drove up and we went bananas. I ended with 45 min of Congo Natty jams. I dont think I Love Neon ever had Montreal hipsters moshing to dubstep Bassline and then oldschool ragga jungle before, but it worked.
Servito2.jpg
Q & A with Mike Servito
M: Are there any tunes (by other artists) that you for sure are itching to drop (or test) in your NYE set?
MS: It's always a test hahaha. hmmmm. Maybe a classic or 2 on Emergency Records.

M: Since moving to NYC, are there any tracks that you play out that have become staples for you?
MS: Velodrome - "Capataz" and Daniel Wang - "Like A Dream I Can't Stop"
Dreaming always works its way into my sets.

M: Any edits/dj tools that you use as secret weapons of your own?
MS: Nope. Just some vinyl manipulation and trickery, man.

M: What's your usual response to people who make requests?
MS: "I'm sorry, WHAAAT???? No..." or I look down and ignore you.

M: Where were you/what did you do on 12/31/99?
MS: In Detroit djing a party and playing Prince, of course.

M: What is your most memorable NYE ever? (whether you were performing or not)
MS: I was in Chicago several years ago, not djing and spending it with 3
best friends, drinking heavily and getting stupid!
I skipped out on work and didn't come back home for a week. Best New
Years week ever!

thanks guys,
HAPPY 2009!

If you read this blog, dj, or even just listen to music - JAMES BROWN changed your life! Period. End of story.
His beats, rhythms, style, and all around pimped-ness have been bitten and copied for decades, and are still imitated today. Yesterday was the 2 year Anniversary of the Godfather of Soul's death, and not one news station I saw even mentioned him. So sad....
Here's a few clips i found on youtube to commemorate this Legend.
The first shows the Hardest Working Man in show business on an old Playboy TV show. He got the white girls singing " i'm black and i'm proud"

Here's a VH1 show where he runs thru a medley of hits:

Here he is in Africa with Muhammad Ali (possibly rocking the same ill kit he had on VH1 show)::

And finally here's the infamous CNN interview, where despite being clearly wasted, he still kills the interview. Only the Godfather could have pulled this off:

Instead of the "Changed My Life" shirts, i wanna make some that just say " I owe it all to James..."

1st "rave" I ever went to in 1993, Scotto's legendary NASA party at now closed down Club Shelter (aka Club Vinyl)
My mind was blown that night, partly because of the brown acid I took, but more so from the insane music i heard. Just look at that DJ line up - too good.

Party flyers are so disposable now. You see the same one over and over again on emails, blogs, sites, sometimes even printed out (even though 90% of the flyers I see are online and aren't for events in my city), until you're seeing the image in your sleep. They're farted out with little effort, drenched in logos that nobody cares about, and can someone please explain the HOSTED BY (INSERT 50 NAMES) phenomenon please? Then once the show is over, you'll never see the flyer again. Compare that to the legendary screenprinted 1967 Fillmore posters or the hand-assembled fantastic romantic disco rapp flyers of the early 1980s.

Just like Dust was saying, flyer design used to be a huge priority for me back when I was a starving designer and had no choice. I still like to do them if they're for longtime repeat customers, events I'm throwing or am DJing at, for parties I'm down with in general, for someone I've been really wanting to work with, or if I can come up with an interesting concept. It's still a great feeling to walk down the street and see something you designed posted up in a store window.

I'll dig through some stacks of really old ones at home, but here are a few oldies I've found online...

The type and photos were printed out from the computer and everything was laid out and drawn by hand. A collabo with Adam "Snakebird" Garcia.

Really stoked on how this one turned out.

Me and Mel's first gig together.

I spent way too much time on this one, but was excited for the show and the concept I came up with, so I knew I wanted to make it count.

Had to go all out for Wezz Burlesque's birthday.

...aaaaaaand I'll end it off with a little self promo.

good to hear from flyer guru dust. he brings up some good points about flyer design.
when i was hungry, i would always be asking "want me to do the flyer?"
i remember my first flyer designs was so cryptic, the promoter was like "i can't even tell what day it's on..." but me, being the young meglomaniac designer was like "yo, that's the swiss-blue note shit, i'm not changing it, people will get it...." in retrospect worst flyer ever. the flyers above came a couple years later (while i was still at NYU) for Baby Jupiter, one of the first dance clubs in the les... still very cryptic and so german...

but that was also a different era as p-love points out. one of the greatest feelings in the world as a young designer is seeing your shit get printed. so when those flyers came out, my heart would rush, then i would inevitably get so pissed that the orange was too dark or something. i miss those feelings.

my last point (who really cares?), is that cause shit isn't getting printed, it's definitely a different game. when you know it's getting printed and someone asks you to design it, you should take it as honor. someone is asking you do something cause they like your work and are willing to put a couple hundo down to get em printed. jpegs... not so much.

I don't really like to speak on, nor do I enjoy most of my past work but since two of my flyers may be or def are contributors to this discussion I feel the need to pontificate. That said.. FUCK FLYERS. I used to bleed, sweat and spend HOURS on them. That's because of two reasons..

1. I was a hungry designer, had something to prove and still do.
2. Flyers are a dime a dozen (as seen on this blog) and I had to make sure mine were better than the next mans whole album.

To this day I still have people tell me that they have such and such flyer on their wall or that it's their favorite shit of mine. Really? WTF.. What about the rest of the non-flyer work I've done over the years?

Aside from my record label, there's only two people I'll still do flyer work for. Justine D, and my homie Vin Sol. Why? Because they let me do what I want. Almost.. Case study time!

Below is the original verison of the NYE flyer Adrian posted in one of his earlier bloggins.

ORG LPR NYE.jpg

Justine didn't like the "green goblin" and understandably so felt it didn't represent the vibe of the party. In retrospect she was totally right and I really dig the cleanliness of the final version on some old 50's Paul Rand/Hans Schleger vibe. And no I'm not comparing myself nor were they referenced.

Next up is a flyer I did for a party Vin threw this past August. You'll notice I used the same little devil (he is my mascot) and a few of the components but to much greater effect.

Born & Raised_A-Trak.jpg

There isn't much to say about the FG Holiday Party flyer. It needed to be bold and done asap. I've got bigger fish to fry so it's really a study in efficiency. Or laziness depending on who you ask. You have no idea the flurry of emails that went back and forth about the scale of the sponsors branding components on there. Ultimately everyone needed to be happy and we found a middle ground.

The purpose of this post was not to toot my own horn or namedrop, moreso to show a little bit of the process behind my work. Hopefully I've accomplished that.

On a sidenote, nuff respect to P-Love and his cross promotion of Josef Muller-Brockmann but that book has been sitting in my library virtually unopened since the day I purchased it. The work in it is too good to be referenced for the completely disposable subject matter at hand.

Lastly everybody, sometimes you just gotta fight flyer with flyer ya know? Ba-dum-dum-tschhhh..

PS. I'd like to hear Cody weigh in on this subject. Not only is he a good friend but as we all know an amazing designer and artist. I saw his Drop Bass flyers long before I ever met him.

Same for you Mr. 2600 King. Drop it like it's hot.

PPS. Roc, I'm dying to hear/see what you come up w/ to shut this whole thread down.

I agree with Pete; posting flyers on this blog for self-promotion is a total cop-out. BTW, I'm not promoting a party tonight with Rakim, Black Thought, some ego trip people, Keith Murray and many others at the Knitting Factory. 500 dudes? Yessss.... It could very well end up being a dick-carwash.

What's more disconcerting is the fact that "Making Cashzilla" is beating out "Getting Tang Regardless" on the priority list...

How about some not-so-sneaky cross-promo like "no posting flyers on blogs until you've read some of this".

Sure, word of mouth/blog is the best way to draw a crowd, but i think pete may be touching on another issue here:

Designing web-specific .jpg flyers > being lazy and posting an export of partyflyer.ai

At least change the dimensions, do away with sponsor logos (at least the ones who are only paying for flyer costs), or something. Change one freakin' color.

And since Jemz was on some Muppet shit, here's a segué:

Michna - power supplies on G3 and G4 towers are the first to go. Holler if you need one. Hopefully it's not the logic board.

jemz, you write poetry... all good points.

firstly before I get into this, i'm not talking about your parties, ayres' , nick's, or wes. i just put those names there cause we're boys and people identify with them.
ok, going forward, i'm glad this opened up a dialogue (comments feature will be on blog re-design in 2009), because the flyer party thing is becoming a parody of itself.

1)
club flyers have become stale and way too formulaic. you stick the latest headliner who has a hot blog record on top, throw in Jemz or another Lab affiliate to keep it real, do some half-ass design, and stick a bunch a logos at the bottom. put the flyer on blast all over blogs (like this one) and email lists. repeat 100 times weekly all over the country. conversely, if you want to see a good flyers check out Grotesk's Hump series or Dust's ones for Studio B or Roxy. These don't boast or floss, they just pull your elbow.

2)
no matter how "hot" the flyer is, there's a good chance that the party will suck. let's face it, cool kids don't dance too much or really let themselves go.... unless they are on blow. really, i'd rather go to some bottle service club, get drunk on red bull-vodkas and dance like an idiot with people whose prime objective is to get loose. not to say that music doesn't matter, the best party i've been to in years was the Fela vs. James Brown party at Love. If you weren't dancing you felt like an idiot (no vice-versa). Also, randomly seeing Scottie B at APT basement was pretty incredible (the crowd had no idea who he was).

that's all i'm trying to say with this flyer shit...

oh, and New Eras... ultimate sign of insecurity (unless you play baseball)

What Twitter is a saying about the flyers...

"the first one (PH's) made me throw my new era hat away and wear eyeliner. Way to alientate your client base!"

You know a recession's coming right? We can't afford to loose one New Era hat wearing, DJ Ayers mix downloading, Fool's Gold blog checking, Hollertronix deity praying, weird Asian porno masterbating, Mark Ronson mocking, Steve Aoki envying, AM biting, Spank Rock bothering, Amanda Blank proposing, Justice remixing, Funk Flex hating, Jazzy Jeff still secretly jocking, Scion driving, no idea how dope Snack N C'mish are, Michna skipping, Egg Foo missing, Elle MySpace stalking, Neil Nice hard selling, Roc sucking off, wondering what Tony's wearing, Staccato wheel squeaking, Sabo style Latin loving, still sleeping on Second Cousins customer.

after years of development, turntable lab is proud to announce the Ultimate DJ Bag!

sike, this is one of those holiday gifts our vendors send us. it's like a couple steps above the free personalized custom pen. however, i must say that they got close to our font, looks like they used a squeezed futura condensed extra-bold to get there. btw, the real lab bags coming Fall 2009.

12.18.08-wenger.jpg
speaking of corporate gifts, shout out to the guys at Ableton for sending me this incredible book! i can't wait to strip down to my boxers and read this (how did they know?). Easily the best gift corp gift I've ever gotten (2nd place: Patron boxset).

12.18.08-speakers.jpg
these portable speakers are pretty damn cool. coming to the lab soon.

this thing is freaking incredible. no more deli dirt coffee, only hawaiian gold.

12.18.08-aircast.jpg
things that saved my life #2: some junior-Essien crushed my ankle last week during a meaningless game. thought i'd be out for months, but this air cast is brilliant. i can probably even board next week with this thing on. air cast #1!

12.18.08-stony.jpg
stony has turned into a check writing robot for the last month... the reason? he's discovered the Dan Patrick daily 3 hour podcast. he puts on his bose noise cancellers and just sits there giggling like the ultimate fanboy. serious, i think he'd frontal Dan right now. he keeps telling me he's going to join "Dan Nation"

Which one of them fucks with dudes?

One note about these over-crowded DJ bills: Yeah it sucks but it's never done on purpose. It's like all of a sudden some dude gets involved and than there's 8 million people DJing. I don't know how, but it does. I guess until you see how ridiculous the flyer looks it's just like "the more the merrier."

Another note about these over crowded DJ bills: As long as you're not giving up any of your money who cares? I'm not sweating it, I'll spin next week.

One note on the Studio at Webster Hall: Yeah Webster Hall sucks but the Studio's the shit. True Rave sound system!

In case you missed it, here's some footage of me working the room last week...

HOLY GHOST!

If you think Hold On was a hit, wait till you hear the other shit these dudes have been working on. Native New Yorkers, looks to kill, signed to DFA and Alex can sing his ass off. These guys got it all right now. As you can guess their Dj set was full of Disco jewels, but in the interview we talked about Dilla and all their keyboards. By far these guys are two of the brightest starz in the game.

DJ HOFF

Keeping in Disco mode B-More to LA transplant DJ Hoff dropped me a mix of some real sleazy Disco perfect for getting your office party crunk. Hoff and I have been working on a Mix CD with Spank Rock called Mobroder which is basically like the trials and tribulations of the Black Moroder, I think it’s gonna be epic, so of course it’s taking forever. Look for it in the beginning of the New Year and in the meantime check for Hoff’s mixes floating around the internet, they’re really good.

Don’t forget you can now listen to the show on iTunes...

Sorry for the shameless self-promo, but this is our biggest project ever and I figured it should get some blog shine time. We just wrapped up an 18-color screenprint by artist David Choe (Vice Guide to Travel, Upper Playground, current cover of Giant Robot), based on a 5 x 6 ft. painting he did.

After we printed two different Obama posters for Choe (this one and this one), we decided to do it again like Bill Cosby and Sidney Poitier and print his painting entitled EXODUS FROM THE LAND OF PLAY on the ultra raer hyper limited edition tip.

Once the screenprinting was done, David came to town to sign and number them and he also drew and painted on every single print. Here's some video of Dave in action:

Yo word up Sabo, it's ill to hear the teacher still dropping knowledge bombs after all these years. Speaking of knowledge, anyone ever hear of Ron B? Dude put out one single back in 1990 and no one ever heard from him again. I know The Rub guys put his track "Stitch By Stitch" on their history of hip-hop mix awhile back and word has it, the 12" continually sells for anywhere between $500 and $1000 depending on the condition. There's one on the bay right now but don't count on any recession specials and remember to get your bids in early bros....

The Rub at the Guggenheim Art After Dark party last Friday was pretty out of control. There was a mental dude jumping up and down as soon as we started, Pinochio was face down in the fountain, and I played Young Jeezy and TI for probably the first time ever to a roomful of cougars in a fine arts setting. Then Southpaw was so wild on Saturday, people were falling on the floor backstage. Our boy Ian Meyer took some great pictures for those who slept.

You know Jemz isn't the only one with a Scion show right? In true nepositic fashion, Rub Radio welcomes Jesse Tittsworth to the show this month, throwing down a set of Baltimore club, rave jams and exclusive remixes, then sitting down for a deep and personal interview about food. Scorpions! Whale meat! Plus Cosmo, Eleven and I play tons of new and classic hip-hop, house, and even some dubstep. Listen at http://www.scion.com/channel2 or iTunes > Radio > Hip-Hop > The Rub on Scion Radio 17

In case you missed it in the daily, 12 Steps - The T&A Remixes EP is for sale right here. Featuring Nina Skye, Pitbull, Federation, Diamond K, Kid Sister and Pase Rock. Remixes by DJ Day, Sammy Bananas, Meterhead, Bird Peterson and Trackademicks. Digi coming soon.

I'm back on the road with Bun B next week in the midwest. The shows are free - but you have to RSVP to get in, you can't just show up. I'll be spinning rap videos on Serato VSL. By the way, if you missed it, I put up a live set from the last Bun B tour. Get that, plus my Best of Jeezy mix, and more, at Brooklyn Radio.

on my way to LA, I stumbled into the new Jet Blue terminal. so sick. the railway entrance looked like an entrance into Kubrick heaven. the exterior view is incredible as well, as the industrial grey terminal hugs the classic Saarinen terminal. would have got the shot for you, but i felt self-conscious about being that A.D.D. (asian design dude). inside, the food and shopping choices were better than the mall (jamba juice, ramen, muji, borders)... next time I'm going early.

121008-lastore.jpg
went to go check out the LA store. got some new cabinets built, just in time for gift buying season.

121008-paul1.jpg
on Sunday night Boy Genius gave me a call to tell me that he was going to be on the local nbc show doing sports trivia... answer 10 right and win a flat screen. the commentators were making fun of his winter Skins gear ("nice jacket, i can see why you'd need that in Hollywood"). also check out the expression on the hosts faces...

121008-paul2.jpg
i guess they wanted him to win. they tossed him a softball: name what team 10 nba players play for. iverson... brandon roy... david west .... so easy. but on number 9, Genius choked on.... MIKE BIBBY? he said Sacramento!!! for someone who plays fantasy hoops, unacceptable... again look at the hosts' expression (is this dude for real?)

121008-subway.jpg
from the heights of the new JB terminal to the lows of the nyc subway. genius move to cap some of the old seats with these lavender ones... DC metro will always be #1...

121008-bebel.jpg
a friend called up to tell me that she had extra tickets to the late Bebel Gilberto show at Joe's Pub (best venue ever). of course Sabo was there, and somehow he managed to get me a front row table... thanks dood. people have told me about Bebel's diva-side and being so close, i kinda caught a whiff of mariah-ness. nevertheless, great show and awesome band.

121008-imac.jpg
and finally, we say farewell to this Lab relic. we got this Imac while in our first office in Tribeca. i remember the feeling of being such a "cutting edge internet company" with this fruity-colored underachiever. Many a good dj have put sweat into this machine: frogman, roger yamaha, blu jemz, cmish, minimal man.... RIP crappy Imac.

can't top woody's "hey jealousy" 12" in terms of quantifiably amazing badness but still want to talk about dumb ass records, sooooooo...here's "female of the species" by space.

prob best known from the austin powers soundtrack, but also had a little run on its own as one of the handful of britpop videos you could order on "the box" (it's funny how all those bands were so down with giant fleece sweatshirts, i was always half-waiting for noel gallagher to rock maurice malone or something). only reason i thought about it today is because, lo and behold, swizz beats and lil wayne sampled it (?!?!?)

somehow i'm still holding onto the single even though the sleeve has some kind of unidentifiable food stain on it, even though it's fucking GOOFY as shit as a song, even though there's some very questionable scratching on it.

now white town "your woman" on the other hand...STILL A SMASH!

I’ve been in Miami almost 10 days now. I was supposed to leave a few days ago, but when I got the snow report I was like “what’s the rush?”

Art Basel’s a complete 180º from WMC. If you think it’s hard to get into a DFA party, imagine Grace Jones in a 250 capacity venue.

Schnazzle’s not really about the parties though, its all about networking and I guess buying art if you can afford it. Well I didn’t do any networking and I’m not bringing home any Monets, but I did take some crappy pics. For the wild side of the trip check TWITTER or the ARAB PARROT aka FREDDY FERRARI (Don’t watch me…)

First off I played myself by not considering the ramifications of wearing this shirt around Scope…

jemzeddy.jpg

It was the equivalent of wearing a MOOG shirt to NAMM or better yet one of those “I got Bourbon Faced on Shit Street” shirts in New Orleans. I almost turned it inside out.

kboy.jpgkgirl.jpg

Pete and Cindy were selling their child photos.

Dalek.jpg

I always like Dalek.

naomi.jpg

More Naomi, she’s super cool and super humble. Thanks for the Mimosa’s babe!!!

pandas.jpg

This was in a series of sketches that reinacted YOUTUBE moments. I’m partial to Pandas. Funniest thing the Parrot said all week “I didn’t come down here to look at a bunch of sketches!”

elvis.jpg

I didn’t like this piece at all. But Lloyd and I both started shaking when we saw it cause it’s exactly what shit looks like when you smoke Salvia. DON’T SMOKE SALVIA!!!

grl.jpg

These guys were responsible for shutting down Boston one day. Google “GRL” kind of a big deal I guess.

portriat.jpg

black.jpg

Lloyd’s best quote of the week “finally someone got it right!” You can’t really see in this picture, but that’s just a black piece of paper inside a frame. It had a red (meaning sold) sticker next to it, people are still falling for that one? Jeez I’m in the wrong business.

fage.jpg

This is just a pic I took of some of my favorite yogurt. Best promo item ever!!!

HOLLER AT YOUR BOY TWITTER/BLUJEMZ !!!

Alright, reality check. It's the last month of this crazy, crazy year. Although it's easy to lose your head in the flurry of the holi-daze and the state of the economy, I think you'll have to agree that musicians, producers, and DJ's have been working harder than ever to bring fresh sounds to the scene. Thanks to our new pres, change is a word heard throughout the country, but for music, I think it's already here...

That said, check out these picks, or miss them when they're gone.

Damn. I had to ask Pete for blog access in the hopes of joining in the 12" showdown. Then I saw Hey Jealousy and instantly conceded. The Tomb Raider soundtrack sampler I stumbled upon last week isn't even picture-worthy. Keep it going!

Hey Lab fam. It's been a while.

While Lloyd gets his Winter/Summer Body on at the nude beach and the "Hide n Seek" record search game gets put on pause, I'll leave you with this: (SHIT THAT PROBABLY NOBODY CARES ABOUT YET, AND YOU'LL NEVER FIND ON VINYL).

NEW WAVE MERENGUE!!! (epic 49 second intro, wait for it)

Yea Neo-Cumbia's all nice n shit, but you just wait for the day when Dominican music rapes the Lab Box Score :-)

Unfortunately for you both miami's calling my name and ive got beaches to lay on so for the next couple days so i might be ghost. When i come back tho im changing the game with my collection of overly literal colored vinyl (think "red red wine" on red vinyl). so watch out. but for now...

So awesome.

If we're going to truly set off this Bad Record Pissing Contest, allow me to lay down 2 rules:

1. No import 12s. As we all know, the Europeans have literally pressed every song on 12", including the first caveman banging 2 rocks together to express his outrage about pterosaurs or whatever.

2. No albums. Singles only.

So here we go:

ps- Lloyd I'm pretty sure I gave you at least one of those 3 NES records after we made the Neverending Party Pt 2

IMG_1916.JPG

Youre lucky im too lazy to locate my "Perfect Gentleman" promo feat Hope and end this whole shit right now! What, you dont remember that song?

Actually this song is fucking awesome!!!!!

Anyway, as far as hip hop hybrids go i cant really fuck with you there. i never really went through a drum and bass phase which is why to this day i have really great taste in music. however, i will invite you to fuck with my N.E.S TRIPLE THREAT!

I ain't talking no Nintendo bullshit either.

TRIPLE THREAT
If ever there was a wtf situation this is it because i didn't do this on purpose. This just kinda happened over the years! I don't recall buying the 7" let alone the album or 12" however there i was looking through my records and there they were. This is turning into one of those games where the winner is actually the looser. Like a who can do the most drugs contest or something. oh, well. GAME ON!

always,

Thats what the fuck I'm talking about. Was going to keep it in the refugee camp and grab the pic sleeve Wyclef feat THE ROCK "It Doesn't Matter" 12" (w/ Longsy D "This Is Ska" loop) but it looks like I actually did get around to tossing that one on the last collection purge. Instead we have the blue vinyl double LP Blade II soundtrack in all its raptronica awfulness...but...there's an Eve and Fatboy Slim song I...kinda like. Ugh. Save pile.

Oh, i see how it is now. First im blowing my load and now my records are too "good." Ive been down this road before. As soon as i start killing it the rules change and im forced to dumb down. Fine by me. Ive only been dealing with these sort of issues for the last 400 years. GAME ON!

IMG_1896.JPG
I bought this 12" thinking there would be the original version on the flip or something. There wasnt and after further listen Sting and Pras are lucky i keep a diddy archive cus theres no justifiable reason why anyone should ever have, hear or have to experience this very very bad song. Its just not "good."

Dont believe me?

Pras is the fucking worst,

To bring it back to the stacks...Lloyd all those were actually "good" records (a bunch of Woody's were too), I was talking about the puzzling shit you can't bring yourself to get rid of even though there's no reason whatsoever to hold on to it or even own in the first place...

whitehouse-dc-1.jpg

went home to the great state of Maryland for thanksgiving. hit up downtown DC on saturday. this is a picture i took of the white house. i am always amazed that you can get so close to it with that low security fence and barely any security in sight. i could almost throw a football to the porch.

i have always been curious to see what would happen if shit went down here. would agents drop pop up from the sidewalk, plain clothes kids in bubble jackets popping out gats? are those windows bulletproof? realistically, you could see some wacko coming up to the fence and firing off a rocket launcher (which i would never do big brother if you are reading).

toilets-corcoran.jpg
went to the corcoran gallery... the Richard Avedon's portraits of power exhibition is incredible. seriously. the book does it no justice. the silver prints are the only way to see em. pay the extra cash and go see this (coming from someone who hates politics). i would have taken some flicks but wasn't in the mood. However, went to go piss at Corcoran, and had one of the best pisses in my life. these toilets are awesome, feels like you're pissing into a fish's mouth... up there with pissing off a cliff and pissing into pitch black woods.

shipset-nov08.jpg
while most of yall were still in turkey comas, shipset was working hard to get your packages out. ain't no thing...

but glad to be back in ny. road a gypsy cab from the airport, hit up a late night yoga class (yeah i do that kind of shit), ate an awesome burger at westville, and saw this beautiful ugly at my bus stop...
