Peter,

Im alittle hurt that you would assume my records peak at spoonman. To insinuate that i blew my load is just crazy talk. One sided spoonman promos is just the level im on when it comes to shit like this. Yea, i set it off with spoonman. SO WHAT! Spoonman means nothing to me! Perhaps i'll back it up a bit and start slow. Will that make you happy?

Maybe instead i should have started off with:

My "Doctor Feelgood" 12". (its an import which is kinda like cheating but its awesome none the less.)
drfeelgood.jpg

Or how bout my Billy Idol "Cradle of Love" 12 with "Rob that the Cradle of Dub (Extended Inst Mix)" on the flip
cradleoflove.jpg

NO NO!! How bout my "We didnt Start the Fire" 12 with an extended version of "Just the Way you Are" on the b side?

Ha.
An that was just 1989!
Im killin' these bamas chronologically!!!!
Shall i keep going?

way to kill a great thread lloyd... you gotta build up to Spoonman!
that's like playing "Scenario" as your first song (do people even play "Scenario" anymore?)

Feel the rhythm with your hands
Steal the rhythm while you can, spoonman
Speak the rhythm on your own
Speak the rhythm all alone, spoonman

Spoonman, come together with your hands
Save me, Im together with your plan
Save me

All my friends are indians
All my friends are brown and red, spoonman
All my friends are skeletons
They beat the rhythm with their bones,

Who ever invented "working remotely / working from home" is a genius. Who ever invented the McDonald's breakfast is extra genius (Ronald?). My brother is right, its breakfast perfection, you can't get better than the Sausage EggMcMuffin combo. I caught the drive-thru just in time (10:29am, 1 minute before the end of breakfast), so I got extra hype and supersized my OJ and told the guy to double up on the hash-beezies.

things that suck about nyc #285: the chance of getting stuck in an elevator
in nyc, you ride elevators more than any place in the US. i hear about people getting stuck all the time. this wknd it happened to me. 1 hour in a steel walled elevator with spotlights pouring down. the guy on the other side of the emergency intercom was cool tho, he played the radio for me and kept calling me "buddy," as in, "you ok there, buddy?" at dinner, i told a friend and he replied with another story about his friend getting stuck late night with a girl and the girl taking a piss in the elevator (they were drunk). they ended up going on some dates...

in our continuing tour of ny's soccer fields,
we visit randall's island again, this time the southside

randalls2-3.jpg
weather was brutal, probably around 30 degrees at the 9pm kickoff... but it was gorgeous out.

randalls2-1.jpg
great views all around and you can rent these fields for under $10 (but it's impossible to get a reservation)

randalls2-2.jpg
the island is also famous for its psychiatric wards and other various, strange institutions. they put these here on purpose... you can peep em in the background...

things that are awesome about owning your own biz #2: you can make stoopid marketing materials
how can she slap thing has been stuck in my head now for over a month now. I want to say "you go" like every third sentence. so as a catharsis, i made these stickers so i never have to think about it again. you go.

THE FUTURE IS HERE!

Everyone else out there trying to combine the formerly unmixable worlds of screamo, auto-tuned club rap, mall-core, choking and yelling at girls, pouring 40s out onto your cul-de-sac, Versace, being friends with girls who have never tried dancing before, and working at Hot Topic, hang it up... actually anyone else even trying to make music in general, don't even fucking bother, cause the groundbreaking musical mavericks of Brokencyde got that shit on LOCK.

The last couple weeks for me musically have been insane. I've gone to see some amazing djs perform and also have been fortunate to share the stage with some dudes that make me swooon.
So much so, that I have been saving up all my reviews of the artists I've seen for one Giant Post!
It all started on October 31st in a city called Juarez in Mexico. (just so happens to be the murder capital)
Staccato played a festival (Border Noise) with some of our biggest heroes in the world. We played on the MINIMAL day with freaking Tiefschwarz, Audiofly and Steve Lawler.

Here's a random "fan video" we found....

Then we get back to LA...
and The MAJOR CREW (STACCATO, ACID GIRLS, MIKE B) played DJ SNEAKS BIRTHDAY PARTY!!!!!!!

And I must say, Derrick Carter played the sexiest DJ set I HAVE EVER HEARD.

The next night I went to watch Kaskade at Vanguard. I mean, I love the big room sound...but when I go see Kaskade, I wanna hear DEEP HOUSE. But when I saw him spin he spun 90% Big room Ibiza House..... But it still sounded beautiful on that Function One Soundsystem.

The next week, we went to go kick it LA's FIRST ALL DIRTYBIRD PARTY Featuring Claude Von Stroke, & The Martin bros. KILLED IT!!
Michna had his album release party that night... but he joined us after...

SO THEN THATSATURDAY THE COPS BROKE UP MAJOR WITHIN THE FIRST HOUR OF THE PARTY. ASSHOLES.
I WOULD LIKE TO TAKE THIS TIME OUT AND MAKE AN OFFICIAL APOLOGY TO ALL THE PEOPLE THAT CAME OUT TO SUPPORT. THE ANTI-RAVE TASK FORCE IN LA IS BACK IN EFFECT. JERKS.... AND A BIG SHOUT OUT TO JEMZ & MICHNA.. WHO WILL BE ON THE MAJOR AT WMC NOW INSTEAD.

So after all that rain and sadness came the sunshine and happiness AKA my Favorite, Laidback Luke at CINESPACE.

here's a video.
Please Ignore Steve Aoki screaming on the Mic in the first 10 seconds "get off the stage" but for real the stage was about to collapse due to the amount of people on it!

AND TONIGHT!! IM GOING TO WATCH AK1200!!!!

Anyway, I guess my point is, LA is Killing it right now...
and for the first time This NYC Transplant can say "I LOVE YOU LA!!!"

PS!!! HERE ARE SOME GIFTS!

I had never met him before and due to his TTL blog musings was apprehensive to say the least. Dude won me over w/ his ipod playlist alone but was also a gentleman and scholar. I thought he was Scottish however.. Separated at birth?

I was trying really hard to save this entry for Blue Jemz ever since he yelled at me on the dancefloor during Adrian's epic album release rooftop/loft rave for posting after he did on the blog but the shame of being outed for this grievous transgression should do the trick.

Saw RocknRolla this wknd. The character development and storyline seemed to drag on for the first half but once the action kicked in I had no complaints. As usual, the soundtracks are always blazing in Guy Ritchie films and I discovered the following joint by Australian group Flash and the Pan. The version posted has the dance scene in which the song plays so you'll get the context and who doesn't enjoy Thandie Newton? The quality is a little poor but the actual song/video kicks in after a few or just fast-forward..

This one by the same group is my favorite shit of the moment-

For extra credit, the singer in the group is George Young, the older brother of both Angus and Malcolm Young from AC/DC.

Finally, the bonus video. Thandie Newton and Ricky Gervais reading the script from the "Nailin' Palin" porno-

NEW LAB RADIO

(click box, duh!)

This month my guests were…

mjuggernauts_3.jpg

MIDNIGHT JUGGERNAUGHTS

Australia (specifically Melbourne) is on fire and these guys are no exception. I really love their album and was really amped to get to do this interview. We talked about how they don’t practice, Prog Rock, being on the road with the Ed Bangers, their writing process, the Mighty Boosh and a bunch of other things. They had CD booklets that were more stacked than Michelle Obama’s ass, chock full of all kinds of shit from their own unreleased remixes to Enrico Morricone album cuts. Cool guys, schmoove dj set.

jemzandmikenohomo.jpg

(thee) MIKE B

I met a lot of people in my almost 3 years in LA (geez, was it really that long?). Of all those people I can count my true friends with my fingers and Mike Beezy is without a doubt one of the best (and the first return guest to the show). I already told you guys over and over what an ill dj he is, but did I ever tell you about Pool Crew? Mike and I spent last summer on pool party radar. If you had a pool and you were having a party, the Pool Crew was cannon balling your shit! He recorded this set in my bedroom almost two months ago but honestly it’s still fresh as fuck, with all kinds of Knish Hit Squad and Grave Leaf exclusives. We decided to end my last broadcast from LA with a 30 min talk session ala classic Stretch & Bob that was pretty hilarious. Love you buddy! Come see us back together again at MAJOR this Saturday.

Don’t forget you can now listen to the show on iTunes...

iTunes → Radio → Dance → Turntable Lab LA Radio

The amazing Prince Terrence and I are starting a new weekly party in the basement of Webster Hall called Dance Class this Thursday, so go cop some Capezios.

Back in LA next week to get my Volvo and drive it back to NYC with The Arab Parrot (check the blog for full coverage). I'll be at Hollywood Standard Monday, La Cita Thursday & Teddy's Friday, but first...

I kinda fell in love with NYC again this weekend...
It all started Friday when we had DJ Cabide do an in-store performance at the LAB.

Dude was ill-matic on the MPC, and super humble and friendly, despite not being able to speak a word of English. Check the video I made, more (professional) footage coming soon:

Then Saturday night I dj'ed at Bembe , my favorite monthly gig in NYC. I do 6 hours straight, and as usual, it was packed, sweaty, and the energy was incredible. People were going crazy to my afro latin house set, and the percussionists were slamming away.
Here's a short snippet of that part of the night , before getting into the cumbia, salsa, and reggae later:

After Bembe ended at 4am, I went over to my friend's Justin Carter and Petrit's Easy Lover Loft Party. It was 5am and people were still going for it. Lots of LAB heads were in the house too. Lloyd, Jemz, Spank Rock, and Neil Nice pushing it to the limit. Good times til 7am...
Sunday i was pretty out of it all day back at the store, but after we closed, i somehow got a 4th wind, and headed up to Pacha, for Danny Krivit's 718 Sessions Party. His guest DJ was none other than Joe Clausell, so it was basically a Body and Soul reunion, and it was AMAZING!

Notice they were playing records and CDs - no Serato!!
If you like house, soul, and disco, and you've never seen/heard these two play - you are SLEEPING!!!
Now I remember why i would go to Body and Soul every weekend religiously, back in the Club Vinyl days.
The crowd was very mixed, and very open. EVERYONE was dancing, and cheering, and nobody was checking out each other's sneakers. I even got to see a Vogue-off in the basement by the bathrooms, with like 10 trannies just battling. So ill.
The sound at Pacha is fucking huge, and these guys worked that system like i've never seen before. Joe's EQing is simply untouchable, and they worked every single record from beginning to end, making it sound better and more incredible than i'd ever heard before. Joe dropped some insane 15 minute long version of "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" and the place went ballistic. Here's my favorite shot of the night:
Joe C eq feelin

Joe get's so into every song he plays and when he's EQin, it likes he's staring into heaven, waiting for the signal from above to know when to drop the bass back in. Here he is bending back almost totally horizantal before slamming the crossover back and just murdering the crowd with massive amounts of bass. This was so inspiring to watch, words cannot even explain.
What a weekend. Thanks New York City. I still got mad LOVE for you.

Now that we (the rest of the world) can once again get inspired by America, I'd like to show some Posters seen in Goa last week. US pop mashed up in Indian massala with a little Portuguese flavor.
