I found this gem from 1979 at the Oakland swap meet during my recent sojourn in San Francisco. Cat selling the pamphlet only wanted a dollar but it was early in the day and the pickings so slim elsewhere I couldn't find anybody to break a twenty so he told me to just take it. I wasn't able to find out much about it online other than the publisher was part of the underground press. As the saying goes, the best things in life are free. Except for crack and sex..

Since I've been back in NYC I've been back at EVR with or without Ronson doing the old Authentic Shit show on Fridays from 8-10PM. Last week The Arab Parrot, sTERRYo, O-Spindles and some homies took over the show with me and I have to say it was the most awesome show ever! Wait till you hear The Parrot on the streets "are those 36 D's?"
Next Tuesday I'll be with Nina Sky (sexE) at Roxy's party for that Red Bull contest, she's pulling out all the tricks for this one...

Huge shout out to Jay-Z and Beyonce who happened to stop by our disco/house party every friday night at East River Bar in Williamsburg. I'd have to say I was super impressed that NY's notorious power couple aren't above chillin' out at our low-key bar to celebrate Beyonce's friend's B-Day. In this bloggy blog world, this would probably be big news and although I regret not getting pictures with Hova, the whole bar was mad respectable with no flashes going off, which kept everything casual. Plus, seeing Beyonce shotgunning virtual deer on the arcade was too precious. I was just pleased to see the word of mouth reaching so far. For Halloween, our crew is getting extra hype. Gonna throw down again for an all out disco, boogie, funk, house vinyl extravaganza at East River Bar in conjunction with an all night loft party in walking distance. Please come and join all the freaks, freaking all night long. More info coming soon...

big tings a gwan this upcoming weekend. it seems the crew has been invading the midwest lately. a few weeks ago Sabo and I were in Lawrence, KS at the same time and played on different nights [his being teh dope]. not only am i back in this town but i actually moved here [shhhhh!]. the only catch is, this weekend Diplo's spinning the same night as me. my genius self; i'm going to try and break up my sets with my other dudes so i can run down the street [literally] to catch some of his set since its been a while. i'm a man of many hats. also that night i'll probably be swingin an after party prior to the hotel lobby, at my loft right there on the same street. Dip'set, holler at the kid.
i wish there were more leagues like that around the states on the real so my predators won't just collect dust all year long. respect.

while TTL Madness is on winter hiatus, i joined a full field squad that plays its games all over ny on sunday mornings. this weeks game was in astoria, queens. after more than 10 years in the city, i had never been to this part of Queens before... always interesting to see different parts of the city. ny is unique in that there's so many central areas. at the end of road, there was this dust bowl of a field. no grass, just loose dirt and rocks. we were playing a team of Albanians. most of their players were stocky and strong like the bogman. i shook the hand of the guy i was about to cover... he had the meatiest hand I've ever shook in my life. in days leading up to the game, we offered our nice turf field in the city for the game, but the Albanians declined, boasting "we've never lost on this field before." so we should have known we were in for it. ground passes were impossible here and the Albanians knew it. they worked one touches in the air which resulted in the first goal. they were also kicking up the dirt to cause mini-dust storms, blinding our defenders. touche. second half started no better with 2 early goals. 3-0. but in the last quarter we started to figure things out like any ball to the outside of the penalty area is a good ball here... and Albanian men get tired. we scored 2 ugly, quick goals. in the final minutes, the biased ref ignored a blatant hand ball in their box, and the score didn't change. although we lost, no one was really upset. we had just played Albanians on a dirt field in Queens on a sunday morning.

Q-Tip Listening Party In-Store at Turntable Lab LA
Q-Tip shows up and opens up the event with what felt like 20 minutes of just talking. Talking about everything possible. Talking about Hussein Obama, that other vanilla face, hip-hop, LA, whatnot. He proceeded to play a few cuts from his album, talking about his thought process or explaining stories/influences inbetween tracks. Not gonna lie, it felt good to hear the abstract on record again, it was such a throwback flashback feeling.
What was awesome (and the best part), was the 'town hall' style question + answer period Q-Tip insisted on having, urging the crowd to ask him more and more questions about anything. Someone asked about how he managed to do work on Mobb Deep's Infamous album, and Tip proceeds to do an incredible Havoc impersonation full of "naw what I'm sayyan"s and a Prodigy, full of chewing noises and the deep voice. Someone asked about a rumored Common + Q-Tip collabo album in the future and he confirmed it true. Best question of the night was from a wankster who asked if it was true if he dated Nicole Kidman. Instead of a Sarah Palin duck-and-dodge answer, he gave the people some straight talk and said "Yeaaaah. That pussy was right too." Nah, he didnt say that, but he thought that.
I miss the days when record shop walls looked like this.... Raekwon's 3rd single from Cuban Linx on the wall!? These arugula-eatin, Prius-drivin, latte-sippin, Obama-votin Hollywood elitists had no idea what was going on.

For the better part of 2008, the hardworking print team here at Burlesque has been screenprinting thousands of Obama posters for Upper Playground. Their huge series features poster designs from Ron English, Cody Hudson, David Choe, Morning Breath, Grotesk, and many others. We ended up having a bunch of scratch + dent posters and miscellaneous less-than-perfect leftovers hanging around the studio, so we convinced a few Twin Cities business to let us do storefront window displays of all of these Obama posters we'd been printing (along with a grip of the ubiquitous Shepard Fairey designs) which will be running through election day. Here are the highlights: Treehouse Records: PUNY / Pink Hobo: Pink Hobo detail: Fifth Element: Big Brain Comics: And if you'll be in Minneapolis on October 25th, we're hanging all of our weird one-of-a-kind test print versions of the Obama posters up in our gallery:

the TTL Madness soccer club won the chinatown league championship this past saturday. After a inconsistent regular season, the team stormed through 3 dominant victories in 3 hours and hoisted the cup to the jeers of park drunkards and old chinese men. P-Gorgeous marked his place in NYC sports history as the only person in the world to win both the soccer and bike polo championships at Sarah Roosevelt Park. left to right until spring 2009...

NEW LAB RADIO (click box, duh!) This month my guests were…
More and more I feel like if my favorite shit isn’t coming from Eli Escobar right now, it’s coming from this guy XXXChange. Ever since he dropped that Thom Yorke remix he seems to be able to do no wrong. I bugged him with questions about being in the studio for the early LCD sessions and his equipment/production secrets. He played a bunch of his latest work as well as a few big room bangers he said he was really feeling for the production quality?
DANNY DAZE Not only does this guy dress shmoove, he is shmoove! I went by his studio in Miami (an extension he literally built on to his Mom’s crib all by himself) and wasn’t disappointed for a moment. You may be familiar with his production as one/third of the electro-reworkers DiscoTech, who’s trax are download platinum over on Crooklyn Clan Dot Com. What I didn’t know was that he was also a super intense, super tough dj, with a deep appreciation for all forms of Electro. The mix he recorded was truly above and beyond, I’ve been listening to it non-stop. Don’t forget you can now listen to the show on iTunes... iTunes → Radio → Dance → Turntable Lab LA Radio Pretty much back in NYC full time now… Lloyd-Ski, O-Spindles and I are starting a new weekly Saturday night party just to have a good time called… GOOD TIMES
Make sure you come by Michna’s release if you’re into fun… LOSE YOUR SHIT (BK LOFT PARTY)
Lastly… Tuesday Oct 14th SCION RADIO 17 PARTY PLAYGROUP @ PLAN B
