Tune in to MTV today (2/28) at 3:30 EST to check our girl Kid Sister doing it extra big as part of TRL's "Spankin New Ladies Week." We went down to Times Square to film it yesterday (Side note - what the heck is Toby up to these days?) as part of a whirlwind promo run that also included stops to see early supporters DJ Enuff at Hot 97 and Cipha Sounds at Sirius/Shade 45. In the Sirius offices they have this wall everyone signs with a marker. These were our two favorites.

It can get pretty weird in LA come Oscar week. All the hot spots are rented out for studio parties, traffic is fucked cause limo caravans shut down roads, and 2 time Oscar Winner (plus several more nominated) strolls in the Lab with his son to scoop up TTL essentials (like the Gina Turner "White Panties" CD - really, he bought one!).

To the Annex, nothing but love, but this kinda trumps the Beyonce sighting.

Good Monday my fellow Americans and Freedom lovers across the globe.

Let's take some collective time off on this Monday for remembrance of a few things. First, for my brother, and the other Croissant-eating, Sex Fabregas-sexual fantasy-having, Hleb-jersey wearing Arsenal fans out there... this was one of the most disgusting sports-related injuries EVER. and no, there is no censorship or proper warning, take this shit like a man. And yes, that is bone.

eduardo.jpg

More importantly, lets all bow our heads and give a moment of silence to a great Hero who fell victim to a vicious murder on the west side of Baltimore today. Rest In Peace.

omar_got.jpg
We'll Always Love Omar Little

Last but not least, let's all remember the fall of a great politician who will forever will be remembered in the campaign race of '08 with this huge smile that screams "Damn you Barack Obama, you are so fucking good, you turned my terrible pre-constructed line that was supposed to spark my campaign as a last ditch effort by calling your movement "Change You Can Xerox" against me and referring to me engaging in "Silly Season" in Washington. Damn, I'm fucked."

arsenalalw468x308zt8.jpg

it's been a while since i spooge-blogged about Arsenal,
but it's Champions League knock-out stage time again.

yesterday's game verses AC Milan was riveting... Tyree helmet catch and cupcake dunk aside, there's nothing as CONTINUALLY exhilarating as a heavyweight CL club match. The talent is ridiculous (modern day mercenary system), there's no stoppage of play, and with the world's best finishers like Kaka and Adebayor a goal can be formed from nothing. Not to mention the midfield playmakers and enforcers... Pirlo (whom I'll address later) vs. Cesc? Gattuso vs. Gattuso 2.0 (Flamini)?

some observations from the game:

1) Pirlo is one of my favorite players, but he was dominated last night. I've never seen him needlessly give up the ball so many times. The speed and ball-winning determination of Cesc, Hleb, and Flamini definitely had him shook... he's definitely gonna bounce back in the second leg.

2) Flamini is freaking world class. He dominated the midfield and outshined his nicknamesake. His defensive midfield play is only rivaled by Mascherano right now in the Premiership... but Matthieu is a much better offensive player. I was definitely not a buyer in previous years, but he's quickly becoming my favorite Arsenal player to watch. His trackback coverage is awesome.

3) Adebayor. Seriously, this guy is next Drogba. His manner on the field is much like Drogba's. He's not afraid to show his playful side during games, but when the ball is coming his way, he transforms into The Predator. AC Milan's players showed nothing but respect for him all game. And the missed goal at the end? Check the picture above, that's what might have caused it. Also his ball-holding skills are not mentioned enough, he continually takes passes with 2 guys on him, holds and distributes.

4) Clichy and Sagna totally dominated the wings on both sides. I love Sagna's first touch, mid-trajectory curling crosses and Clichy's teleportation runs down the left side. AC Milan had no steady answer or defense for these two. Quick, skilled wing backs are going to change the game (as more are discovered), another mark Wenger will leave on the game... (and they won't be so cheap after this season).

I guess no EPL team has won at the San Siro, so boys are up for a big challenge.

one of the best games ever?

Introducing...KID CUDI

We just released Kid Cudi's debut single "Day 'N' Nite" on Fool's Gold, so why not take a minute to let the denizens of the Labcabin get to know dude a little better?

Born and raised in Cleveland, currently residing in BK, crazy melodic flow... The stuff Cudi's been hitting us with for his forthcoming Man On The Moon LP goes everywhere from double time raps over soul samples ("Underdog") to dreamy, "Sensual Seduction"-type club bangers ("Superboo") but "Day 'N' Nite" is a perfect introduction to where his head is at. Dude killed his guest spots on the Fool's Gold tour (including an impromptu performance at the Lab LA store) and our NYC holiday jumpoff with 10.Deep, so we're obviously psyched for more. Stay tuned...

So I went to Brazil to Dj on a cruise ship in December. It was pretty cheese, but they did put my pic on the front of the ship's daily news letter which was in all 3000 cabins.
Photobucket
On the last night they had a "white" party, and everyone wore masks. I dj'ed up in the ship's club, after this local cover band sang by the pool. I was late to start dj'in in the club, due to the hypnotizing power of the dancer's booty i zoom in on...

After i got back to land, i had one day in Sao Paolo. My friend Jay owns the oldest hiphop vinyl record store in town, and he took me all over the city. Obrigado Jay!
Photobucket
On the last night, we went to a Baile Funk club. It was insane to hear that music on an amazing system, and have 700 people going nuts, all night, and singing along to every tune.
Photobucket
DJ Zackomaia is from Rio, so he's a legit Baile Funk Dj. This dude was murdering the CDJs, quick mixing tracks every 2 minute, singing on the mic, shouting out the crowd, chain smoking Marlboro Reds, and chugging Johnny Walker straight out of the bottle. He was psyched to know that people in NYC are playing Baile Funk, and wanted me to stay on stage next to him all night.
Photobucket
The girls were not like the models you see on postcards from beaches in Rio. These chicks were thick, wore the tightest gear imaginable, and could shake their asses like nothing i'd ever seen - not even in strip clubs. There would be groups of 4 or 5 girls, all grinding on each other. It was nuts. Here's the 2 hired dancers that came with DJ Zackomaia.
Watch closely for the rapid fire moves followed by the extra slow rotation at the end. Too good.

53 Rally for Paul Hahn (D) aka Boy Genius on the Obama Campaign Trail
cummings_hahn.jpg

Mayor of Gaithersburg, Paul Hahn (D) aka Boy Genius, being introduced to the audience gathered for a Maryland for Obama rally held at O'Brien's Pit Barbeque in Rockville, Maryland. Representative Elijah Cummings (D-Md.), co-chairman of Obama's Maryland campaign, motivated Obama's supporters with a stirring speech, saying that Obama

"was told so many times, 'How dare you hope,' but he hoped anyway. Never did I dream in my lifetime that I would see a Barack Obama, an African-American, or a Paul Hahn, half-Korean half-Sexy, emerge to tell us what we could be as opposed to telling us what we can't be."

Hello all my Boy Genius Bloggermaniacs, my MySpace gets flooded by your fanmail, craving more and more B. Gizzle posting to save them from the horrendous posting done by most on Turntable Lab's Blog. Can anybody post without posting either 1) a youtube, with absolutely no comments by the poster, 2) another horrendous looking party flyer, or 3) shameless product plug-ins (besides Azaleas, New York's premiere women's boutique, conveniently located in the posh lower-east side, find out all about the Valentine's specials online at azaleasnyc.com).

NEW LAB LA RADIO!!!

Well it took months of negotiating with "dj agents," sneaker and shampoo sponsors and even someone's Aunt but I finally locked down the infamous ROCTAKON to come thru for a radio session.

roctakon.jpg

Initially we were just gonna talk shit and play a couple records, than Roc stopped by Starbucks and ordered (no exaggeration) 8 shots of espresso over ice! Next thing you know he's in the “zone” and I can’t get him off the turntables after two hours (we actually got in trouble with Haul’s girl cause his dinner was getting cold). Not sure what my favorite part was, the disco doubles? the acapella reworks? or the 909 snares looped till you go bananas?

We all knew Andy was gonna come along and raise the stakes, but damn! I really thought the interview was gonna be a hate fest, but he was so high off his mix hating on other folks just seemed like a waste of time. Mike B did just aim me saying it was “a meeting of the assholes,” so we got that going for us.

So here it is the official ROCTAKON addition of TTLAB LA RADIO. Enjoy and pay attention!

BREAKING NEWS: BOY GENIUS ENDORSES BARACK OBAMA
Critical endorsement set to attract millions of supporters to the Presidential hopeful

obama_phahn_blog.jpg
Boy Genius (D) on the receiving end of thunderous applause of a capacity crowd in Gaithersburg

By Art Vandelay
Gaithersburg Gazette Staff Writer
Friday, February 8, 2008; Page A01

GAITHERSBURG, MARYLAND

On the day Senator Hillary Clinton announced that her campaign is broke, and in need of more dirty cracker-ass-cracker cheddar to keep her evil scheming going, Chocolate-face Senator Barack Obama picked up a vital endorsement, and couldn't have come at a better time. With the "Potomac Primaries" on the horizon, when the Chesapeake region of Murrr-land, Washington D.C. aka Chocolate City, and Virginia (Where ain't shit to do but cook / Pack it up, sell it triple-price, fuck the books / Where we re-up, re-locate, re-off them brooks / So when we pull up, it ain't shit to do but look) all take the ballot booths, the highest ranked democratic official in the region decided to help a brother out. At a rally held at Fields Road Elementary School in Gaithersburg, Maryland, Barack Obama was joined on stage by Paul Hahn (D) aka Boy Genius, the Mayor of Gaithersburg. Among the thousands who showed up in the gym were fellow Gaithersburgian and Olympic gold medalist Dominique Dawes, NBA star Steve Blake, area druglord Proposition Joe and lieutenant Slim Charles, and former WWF manager icon, Mister Fuji. In between sips of Hennesey & Coke, The Mayor issued a brief, yet strong message.

Don't be a racialist. Vote for Barack Obama, bitches. To my fellow Korean-Americans, Barack Obama is the closest we are ever gonna get to a Korean President, so don't fuck this up! Hey Hillary, where's your money now? YAHHHHH, TRICK, YAHHHHHHHHH!!!! See ya Mitt Romney! - Take that, Take that, Take that! Shout out to James Lizmi and Stephan Nolan Jakubowics!! What up Ted Kennedy! I see you playa! G-BURG, BITCH!!!

I have to admit, I was kinda suspect listening to James explain the "wrestling" idea last night, but all the new enthusiasm has me pumped! Can someone please start a bracket? Also, you won't want to miss this if you're in NYC this Friday:

Went by The Rub at 3:30am on Saturday to see the Fam. After the lights went on I (being drunk of course) challenged Cosmo to an arm wrestling match. (Rogain I may be in need of some sponsorship soon)

Guess who won?

jemzcosmo2.jpg

All 40 people there were routing for Cosmo because let’s face it I’m an ASSHOLE. The entire room went silent when I took him down (fuck it I’m gonna be the Tony Clifton of this shit). But Cos is my Second Brother, nothing could come between us….

jemzcosmo3.jpg

It got me thinking. This year at SXSW I will be hosting BLU JEMZ’S 1st ANNUAL DJ ARM WRESTLING TOURNAMENT in my hotel room. So start training suckers! More details to come….

*thx to MORSY for the flicks

PS. Klever & Contra you want a rematch? Now you know where to find me!

me and boy genius were talking about the wire, particularly Slim Charles and his Go-Go connection. he's been dropping wire references in his songs for a while... old news for the wire fanatics and mid-atlantic dwellers. we were more interested in him still giving it up for Madness Gear.

"Universal Madness opened in 1985 and was the first major black owned t-shirt line in DC. In the past, their clothes were carried in a variety of stores, including Foot Locker, Nordstroms, and JC Penney. Now, you have to go to their Georgia Avenue store to purchase their designs (although additional stores will be opening soon). The store's shirts, jeans, jackets, and jumpsuits all include a slick Universal Madness stamp. Wear something from Universal Madness to show off your of love DC creativity with style."

I've never owned a piece of Madness gear (Boy Genius swears he had a Madness lanyard in middle school, but I've never seen it)... but after seeing this Madness commericial with NCAA champion, pro NBA baller, the BIRD-MAN TURTLE BOY, my dad drives to all my college games STEVE BLAKE... i might have to cop some Madness ...
