One person died, 41 people were injured and 78 arrested as the second-leg of Argentina's promotion/relegation play-off between Nueva Chicago and Tigre was marred by violence.

Leading 2-1 in the game and 3-1 on aggregate, Tigre were on course to be promoted to Argentina's top flight when they were awarded an injury-time penalty.

However, the visitors were prevented from taking the spot kick that would have confirmed their ascension as Nueva Chicago's fans invaded the pitch.

The situation soon descended into chaos as a fight that began inside the Nueva Chicago Stadium spilled onto the streets, causing a large traffic jam on General Paz Avenue.

The 41-year-old man, who was not named, died after being hit on the head by a stone thrown by a supporter according to reports.

Director of emergency ambulance service SAME Doctor Alberto Crescenti added the man 'was admitted to Santojanni hospital in a very critical condition and died very soon afterwards.'

Chief of Police Claudio Marcelo Stabile, who led the security operation, revealed 78 fans had been detained and the Nueva Chicago stadium was shut down immediately. Ten policemen were also hurt.

Momma I'm Sorry by Clipse

I haven’t written anything because all I talk about now is yoga. This isn’t about yoga: put this song on and listen all the way through. Then go to the two minute/thirty-three second mark where Malice finishes the chorus with a slack “Miami Vice…” Because it’s the way the song started it has the effect of a round and you expect to hear the chorus repeat. Instead, Pusha comes in hard half a beat before you think they’ll start up again and says “Sorry heavenly father…” and it gives you that little impish energy jolt, like after a low dip in yoga but rap; he did it, you did it, and there’s just a lot of unexpected success.

North North by Project Pat

If you have read the Turntable Lab website for a long time you remember Bob Bannister. Not the first time I met Bob Bannister but not far from the first time I met Bob Bannister we went to his house and listened to this song. He likes flannel and was wearing flannel. He rapped this song; walked up and down his long studio apartment like he was the singer of Iron Cross or a dog guarding his territory. He knew all the words like they hadn’t been written, like Project Pat had looked to him to ghostwrite the future. Rolled up sleeves and maybe jean shorts, maybe not. “Cracking n---a’s jaws/running hoes into walls/n---a’s yelling north north/hoes screaming north north” and then Juicy J ends the song saying “fuck these crosses, fuck these crosses” and he felt it, Bob, like a Mississippi Burning moment. I was new to New York and I wasn’t sure that was what it was like. It turns out it’s not and that’s all our loss.

so i hooked up with this soccer team this summer called the Cebolitas (Maradona's first youth club). aside from the old Kendis team (let's get the team back together!), this has been the most fun group of guys I've played with... i have to throw in a dreaded phrase, but this shit "happens only in ny..." the core of our team is made up of 3 guys from argentina including 2 korean-argentinians. there's also players from Spain, France, Ukraine, Uzbekistan (not a joke), amongst other places...

we play pick up a couple times a week, if we get kicked off the main field we head to the roof...

snobs say NY, but my last trip has me leaning to the west...

ok, it's common knowledge that either LA or Seoul has the best Korean food in the world ... which says a lot. we headed to redondo beach to go what is known as the korean crab shack. it's located on a dock giving you nice views of pacific...

We had a new art show open up at our gallery over the weekend. Aye Jay has been mailing out his 6 year-old son Cohen's watercolor paintings to artists to have them draw, paint, and doodle on them and then send them back. He's collected about 100 collaborations from folks all across the board - Shepard Fairey, Kaws, Mike Giant, Gary Baseman, Rammelzee, Mark Ryden, and Mad magazine's Jack Davis. We showed about 50 of them and the show turned out pretty fresh. Here are a few flicks...

Scandinavia was really nuts. You go in the club at midnight and it's not dark yet, then when you come out it is already light again. Combine that with jetlag and Tittsworth and I slept about 2 hours a day. But the parties were bananas fun, The Rumble in Malmo in particular - I don't think I've ever seen that many people go nuts to Baltimore Club in my life. To give you an idea, the biggest song of the night was DJ Class "Stop Snitching!" All the parties were great - peace to Sampo in Helsinki, Jaywalker crew in Oslo, Saurabh and my man Stefan in Stockholm and of course Sweet Fred and the Discobelle crew in Malmo. Tittsworth murdered it everywhere we went, and I just tried to keep up! We ran into 50 Cent at the airport in Copenhagen and he was real nice. Now I'm home playing catch up for a few days, then heading up to Montreal on Friday. By the way, buy our shit!

Kayes-Ba by Boubacar Traoré

Brian moved in with me after he came back from Africa. He had a Fulbright in Ghana and when that ended he came to New York. In our weird storefront apartment he would look for a job and log his hours of African rap interviews. He’d come home from Ghana and elsewhere with a small plethora of cassettes; all colorful colors, bad recordings and hand-me-down flannels. I used a Walkman at the time and, though he told me not to, I would borrow the tape this song comes from and listen to it on the train. Boubacar Traore, I later found out, was a former Malian rock star, singing revolutionary songs in leather jackets in the late sixties. Then he got poor and sold everything, working unsuccessfully as a street vendor until a friend became his patron and bought him equipment. Older, he softened and sang in Malian French, bemoaning everything. I watched a short movie about him, watched him walk around in orange sands and sit on stumps, always carrying a guitar and singing with his voice mild and head down. It’s a lamenter’s music, either about his hometown or dead wife, unpurposefully and ineffably lush and miserable, sort of how I try to live.

La Ritournelle by Sebastien Tellier

My friend told me this song sounds like the Party of Five theme song. That is why I like it. When it played in yoga class I pressed my ear to the mat and tried not to lip synch French broken English; quick snare and corrected posture. Slipping on someone else’s sweat isn’t so bad when I listen to this. Tonight we listened to Lion King soundtrack music and I struggled with the core exercises, lost grip on my binds. I could have used a broken-hearted Parisian.

"Great Leader Berry Sick"

U.K. Daily Says Kim Jong-il Very Sick

North Korea's reclusive leader Kim Jong-il is so sick that he can't walk 30 yards without a rest, according to a report on Sunday by U.K. daily the Telegraph. The report cited Western government sources and was datelined Beijing.
"Diplomats in Pyongyang are increasingly convinced that the dictator needs heart surgery to restore his apparently flagging health," the Telegraph said. Kim must be accompanied by an assistant with a chair so that he can sit and catch his breath when he goes out, the paper said.

Rumors that Kim's health is seriously deteriorating began to spread when six doctors from the German Heart Institute in Berlin visited Pyongyang for eight days last month. Western diplomats believe the combined medical and surgery team treated the North Korean leader, but a spokesman for the German team denied the speculation.

The newspaper wrote that Kim's illness may explain why he has appeared keen to choose his successor. He has apparently put two of sons, Jong Chul, 26, and Jong Woon, 23, through a series of military inspections to ascertain who performed best.

Y: (squinch your face real tight, whip out some small bills and say) "I'll give you 20."
S: (watch his eyebrows raise, and jaw drop.) "huh??? 80!!"
Y: (immediately walk away and wave your money) "Too expensive! 20!
(feel free to yell "too expensive" LOUD, and raise your eyebrows)
S: (now chasing you down the street) "OK, OK, 60!"
Y: (walking faster, make sure to push one or 2 blocks) "25!"
S: (eyebrows raise even higher) "60!!"
Y: (stop and look at some one else's merch) "25!"
S: (smiling, now following you for almost 3 blocks) "OK, OK, 35!"
Y: "OK"

Mr. Stokes took me to the electronics market-a 3 floor department store/flea market of madness, and we found some odd bins of vinyl. Your choices were basically J-pop, C-pop, and random cut out bin stuff (Lisa left eye solo albums, children music lps) my choice was some flexidiscs.

sorry for long time no posts.... Im down in Buenos Aires at the moment went to a Boca Juniors match last night which was crazy. 3-0 Boca, crowd was going nuts the whole time... I got some decent footage. Futbol matches are obviously the move when you are in pretty much any foreign country, but this was super fun. Plus I got a boca scarf and glove set for 6 pesos (2 bucks) and learned some of the songs, which basically break down to calling the other teams (esp. River Plata) bitches with really catchy chants. Even got to throw a couple of these receipt paper things:

In White Rooms by Booka Shade

I stayed out too late on a Wednesday to see Booka Shade in Greenpoint, Brooklyn at a big club. I’m always tired, sleep a lot, but they live in Berlin so I thought I would trek. I’d heard they play drums and keyboards, make the music live. This wasn’t untrue. Mostly they have Madonna headphone mics and shirts with sequins. I do love this band, but live it was more like play-acting through their own songs, an enthusiastic mimicry of something that doesn’t exist in the first place. What was weirder than them, though, was how much everyone tan was feeling it, and how everyone was tan in the winter and how those people felt the need to go to Booka Shade. Where was I? I’d brought some Reese’s Pieces Buttercups not wanting to drink much on a weeknight but wanting something, so I ate those and watched everything; a mixture of Twilight Zone, Poland and an all ages club in the suburbs. When I wandered to the front of the room dudes with bad shape-ups touched whatever butts they could. On stage, Booka Shade told New York they loved us. I kept waiting for them to play the Oh Superman song, but they never did, just kept hitting drum pads. I know they played In White Rooms but don’t remember when because their songs sound similar and each time I thought I heard it also thought I was wrong. To make the distinction I bought their record a week or two after that show, for which I left early. I don’t much listen to it, but I’m glad I tried.

Justify My Thug by Jay-Z

Once I was driving with my friend and this song started playing and she started laughing and I asked her why she was laughing and she wouldn’t tell me. I asked her again and she wouldn’t tell me and again and finally she said “You don’t want to know” and I said I did and she said no and I said yes and she said okay and told me she had sex this morning and this song came on and you know what? She was right; I didn’t want to know. When this happened, I think we were in New Jersey.

damn, this thing was six months in the making, but it's finally here...
Money Studies' first Secret Hangout EP

for a little backstory, let me tell you the process of making this thing.

1) Snack N Cmish were throwing around this wicked bmore version of the Dougie Howser theme in the office, which got me to think about the talented people that make up the Lab.
2) about December I email Lab heads to send in some tracks for a compilation.
3) on unrelated matters, Eliot Lipp started sending me MP3s of his new stuff, "Slow & Smooth" caught my ear immediately so I asked him if we could use it.
4) january, Gaslamp Killer sends in his track.
5) january, Eggfoo sends in his track.
6) january, Snack N Cmish send a new version of their track
6) feb-march, I have to get on Blu Jemz' back to get something to me... I heard his myspace track was the jump-off (i just used "jump off" as a noun), so I ask him for that. His boy in BK has to deliver the track, it get's lost, so Jemz gets me the track on a trip to NYC. We extend the deadline so he can bang out his second track "Turn Away" midst late night gigs and historical hangovers.
7) feb-march, Cody Hudson post some blog thing about Noah Butkus' website. I dig the illustrations so I ask Cody for Noah's address... Me and Noah go back and forth on themes, and he produces the wicked shit you see on the cover. Big up to Noah for being on time!
8) i take the typcial Money Studies type layout, run it through a crappy fax machine with some extra movements, and voila... back cover is done....
9) send it in for mastering etc in mid-april, it gets pressed somewhere in Czech Republic...

it was no easy feat putting this shit together, that doesn't even include the time it took the artists to create their tracks...

but honestly, I think this is one of the best records you're gonna hear for a while.
i am super-proud of the artists and how the thing came out in general...
remember, one side fast, one side slow....

He was last seen wearing cocaine dealer outfit on the very exclusive Martha's Vineyard island, which is well know for being favorite hangout spot of East Coast billionaires.

According to some insider information he ran away from New York after emptying the coffers of Turntablelab. He is now said to be in exile in Argentina, operating under the new name of "Jasperino de la Rana".

Hirst unveils 100 Million Dollar diamond skull

The diamond skull Artist Damien Hirst has unveiled a diamond-encrusted human skull worth $100m - said to be the most expensive piece of contemporary art.

The 18th Century skull is entirely covered in 8,601 jewels, while new teeth were made for the artwork at a cost of $20m. The centrepiece of the 41-year-old's creation is a pear-shaped pink diamond, set in the skull's forehead.

The skull, which was bought from a shop in Islington, north London, is thought to belong to a 35-year-old European who lived between 1720 and 1810.

Hirst said his piece, called For the Love of God, is "uplifting, takes your breath away".

"It works much better than I imagined. I was slightly worried that we'd end up with an Ali G ring," he added.

"You just want it to be flawless, like a diamond is a flawless. We wanted to put them everywhere," Hirst said of the skull.

"They go underneath, inside the nose. Anywhere you can put diamonds, we've put diamonds.

"I wouldn't mind if it happened to my skull after my death," he added.

The artist said that he was inspired by an Aztec turquoise skull at the British Museum, and hopes that his work will eventually be displayed at the institution.

Art expert Charles Dupplin from specialist insurer Hiscox called the skull "another bold move" from Hirst.

"This is a spectacular piece and undoubtedly the work with the highest intrinsic value in modern and contemporary art," he added.
