Big double release party at 205 Club tonight, with SOUND|iNK's Team Shadetek (meanest grime producers in the States) and Hight Priest (ex-Anti-Pop Consortium) both bringing out new albums. Drop The Lime is DJ'ing too, and Snack & C'mish tell me that dude is not to be missed. And after that ends, make your way over to Hiro Ballroom for the coolest, Frenchest show of the year (except The Presets are playing, and they're Australian, but we ain't complaining). Pretty sure it's sold out, though, so make sure to bring like 10-15 girls and some extra $$ for the bouncers.

okay, I hate to give props to Roc cause he's already got a jainormous head, but dude is probably the (non-house/trance) club dj in the world. I would definitely bet money on it... anyway, he slayed the crowd in the Redroom at our party, lab heads were huddled around the turntables, getting tarded and making weird noises, you can even catch Roc smiling... observe...
ok, enough with the i got picked last in gym class,

screw wmc, it's all about gtown right now...
top moments from gtown vs. unc... 2) wallace draining the ice-cold three to tie it... Rick Majerus brought up an interesting stat... pointing out that wallace is a 180 pt. player (shooting, 3 pt, and free throw percentages equal over 180) and citing that he's in the top 1 percentile amongst college players... 3) ewing jr everytime he steps on the court. he is crazy energy and you can tell the team feels more confident with him on the court... he just has everyone's back... not to mention his extreme hoppage 4) all three post-game analysts on espn predicted after the game that gtown would beat ucla in the finals... when's the last time a dc team has been jocked so hard? 5) before the game, i was thinking that gtown was outmatched beyond green and hibbert, but they proved me wrong. Summers is going to be a beast in the next seasons, Sapp had a Cassell-esque performance and showed incredible discipline for an nyc guard, and Wallace was flawless.... 6) JT3 totally out-coached RW. UNC had no definition... it was like RW just let them do whatever they wanted... That has worked most of the year because of their sheer talent, but towards the end of the game, I couldn't even tell who UNC's point guard was... they definitely had more individual talent, but as a team, they needed direction. 7) dream re-match: hoyas vs. gators in the finals... Ewing neutralizes Joakim... Green takes MVP... hoyas win! hoyas win! hoyas win!

SXSW festival in Austin Texas last weekend was a tremendous amount of fun. We had seven gigs in three days and tons of obligations but despite running all day every day, the whole weekend was totally energizing. Nothing beats hanging out with friends from all over the world in 70 degree weather, seeing a whole bunch of incredible musicians and djs for free, eating great food, and staying in a nice ass hotel on someone else's dime. Highlights: Ghostface Killah, The Melvins, Federation, Redman, Amy Winehouse, SWOLL, DJ Day, Mike 2600 King, Morse Code, Diplo, King Most, Catchdubs, DJ Mel, Prince Klasson, Smalltown DJs, Flosstradamus, A-Trak, Kid Sister, Vyle, Cool Kids, Federation, UGK, Rakim, Hier, DJ Haul, Revolution, Boris, Amanda Blank, Solico, RJD2, Nasa, breakdancing, bbq and Sabbath in the Park.
Pictures and commentary on The Rub, A-Trak & Kid Sister at SXSW up on The Fader blog. Photos from SXSW by Ian Meyer, Mike 2600 King, Drink Moloko,Catchdubs. Video here, here and here. We're in Miami all weekend at Winter Music Conference - party dates here including Turntable Lab's massive party!

You know that ridiculously huge Mad Decent party that was supposed to go down in Austin on Friday? Yeah, it got shut down by 5-0 after about 45 minutes. On top of that, Blaqstarr couldn't come because of some legal troubles, the only picture I got before my camera broke was the flick above, and I'm sitting in my apartment right now waiting for American Airlines to find my luggage (and praying the huge, unopened bottle of Maker's Mark in my Lab / Gravis roller bag gets here intact). This is why I never leave Brooklyn. The valuable lesson here? Don't make your "unofficial" party more awesome than all the official SXSW shit, or the indie rock fun nazis will get butthurt and rat you out quicker than Bubs from The Wire. Even with all that, the trip wasn't a total wash. Had time to hit up the NASA party on Thursday, and saw Kid Sis, Bonde Do Role, Flosstradamus and Spank Rock. Friday, we caught Plastic Little at Beauty Bar, and they WRECKED SHOP AT 3PM! (I just kinda assumed those guys didn't wake up 'til the sun was down.) Then, after the no good shenanigans at the IHEARTCOMIX / Mad Decent party Friday night, we ran over to The Rub's outdoor party, where my dude Cosmo Baker did a James Brown tribute that stopped the show (literally). Anyway, the Mad Decent party getting shut down just gives us an even better excuse to do it extra, extra big in a couple weeks at Studio B, right here in BK. DJ BLAQSTARR just got added to the show (go get that SUPASTARR EP!!) and I hear he's bringin' Rye Rye with him. SHAKE IT TO THE GROUND, MUHFUCKAS.
(Buy tickets online here - it's gonna sell out.)

So I've been pretty slow going through all my India crap, but more posts to come, including details on the last remaining "dancing bar" in Mumbai- Indian gangster dudes making it rain on fully clothed girls! Anyway here's some of the records I brought back with me. Didnt really do much record shopping but I saw this one guy with a stand of a couple hundred bollywood joints and couldnt resist. Mostly just bought blind based on the 3 composers I know- Kalyanji Anandji, RD Burman, and Bappi Lahiri. Got some cool shit

mid week debauchery. jamal and saheer are getting loose again in the basement of 205 this tuesday this time under their new moniker Super Family. its gonna be a celebration. a birth of whats to come GET INVOLVED!
sweet logo by the way. on a lighter note. i used to shit on tracy morgan. i didnt get the guy. its not that his humor went over my head in fact the total opposite happened. i thought the guy was total shit. i thought only dumb people thought he was funny. maybe it was SNL. i dunno. anyway, my little brother sent me this clip of him on some live show in el paso tx. im not mad at the guy anymore. getcha money TM. you know who else im not mad at right now??? a man after my own heart. im a firm believer in bullshiting especially when talking to the opposite sex. bullshiting to the point where its obvious youre bullshiting. if your really good at it (like ben here) instead of being deceitful and malicious it becomes charming, cute, endearing and most of all non threatning. ill be honest with you. i have absolutely no game. NONE WHAT SO EVER. but i can talk some shit and deep down everyone loves a bullshitter. FUCK YEAH BEN AFFLECK. always,

There's a new addition to the Turntable Lab / Money Studies familia... FOOL'S GOLD is the new label from A-Trak and Catchdubs, and Catchdini says he wants it to be "the modern version of what labels like Sleeping Bag and Nervous were doing back in the 80s and early 90s. They would put out house records and freestyle records at the same time as Black Moon or some experimental Arthur Russell shit, and it all made sense.”
First up is the Control single from Chicago's Kid Sister, and it's and it's a pretty frickin' good start -- "Control" is produced by XXXchange, and "Damn Girl" on the flip is produced by A-Treezy with a juke remix from DJ Gant-Man!! There's gonna be a single from A-Trak with blends off his new Dirty South Dance mixtape, an EP from Gant-Man, a single from GLC, some stuff from Cool Kids (who you need to hear if you haven't)... needless to say, we're pretty geeked. You can check out some upcoming sounds at the label's MySpace page, and keep your eyes on the daily 'cause that first 12" is right around the corner... (Oh yeah and it's goin' down at SXSW next week...)

The Rub was super fun last weekend.
Last night we played at a semi-private birthday party for Black (Premier's right hand man) in Fort Greene with Evil D, Tony Touch, Brucie B, Red Alert, Lord Finesse and a bunch of other old-school heads. I didn't get any pictures though. It's still a little crazy to me that we get put on at stuff like that. Not that we can't rock it, it's just that I grew up listening to all those dudes and now I'm playing parties with them. I mean I still get gassed that Stretch Armstrong is friendly with me when I think about listening to him spin on the radio and going out to hear him in the club when I was 19. I'm not sure I'll ever get used to it. Tonight we're in DC -
Then back to BK:

i never thought it would happen, but i'm handing over front cover duties for the next money studies release to someone else... i wish i had time to design, but it's just not happening right now... but luckily, Noah Butkus has got my back, he's come up with a sick illustration around the idea of Secret Hangout, which is a new EP and future LP (i hope), consisting of tracks from the Lab circle of trust.... the premiere EP features tracks by Blu Jemz (one sick club track and one strange beats one), Gaslamp Killer (throwback downtempo), Snack + Cmish (a polished final edit of that Dougie track), Egg Foo Young (a lean dancefloor bass track), and new Labhead Eliot Lipp (with some swirling downtempo electro).... look for it dropping sometime this spring.... other factoids.

so it was hahnboy / nightmare's bachelor party trip and everything was great the first night we got there- raided the mini bar, great view from the hotel, boy genius presented a gift jersey (he wore about 10 different soccer jerseys on the 4 day trip).... then pete came down with a stomach virus the next day. Didnt stop me, stony and boy genius from going on an outing to junkie heaven - a 10 block stretch that's literally like night of the living dead with 40 year old half lives walking around and swarming on any living body for life sustenance (change). We checked out this place but had to leave after getting hairy eyeballs from everybody and a string of money questions from a scary junkie mom. Headed straight for lil’ amsterdam. Weed smoking is basically legal up there and there’s bars where you can smoke (buy from the guy upstairs, stand on the X on the carpet), BG actually fell over passed out in the smoking room. That's that BC BUD!! Plus we found a cool bookstore with a café full of vaporizers… pay $5 and sit as long as you want. Stony was psyched. Pete never got better so we had to storm his room after finishing off the Blue Label that Will brought for him. Luciano with the abuse. Ceremonially hit up the strip club the next afternoon, cause you know, we had to. Pete looked grey but maintained. Sorry to report that the quality of Van strip joints has gone way down in recent years… maybe a pic of the signed poster will pop up- anybody got that? Boy Genius was on his A game with the snowboard gear. 50s helmet and Portis jersey. Willystyle was on his A game with the snacks and day time drinking (no mountain for WS). +/-46 is Shwan’s estimate for the over under for Willy purchases from the candy machine. At one point 40 bucks was offered for a Twix. Pete went snowboarding one of the days, but lost his board on the mountain. Disastrous trip for the bachelor- sorry dude. But we still had fun right?

Good work by my friend Jeroen Koolhaas (aka Jeruniverse) and associate Dre Urhahn in Vila Cruzeiro, a hardcore favela of Rio. They want to paint every house on the hill to make a huge urban fresco. So that's a start. Art belongs to the street. The painting represent a kid flying a kite, a hugely popular pass time in pre-playstation cities from Rio to Bombay. Below is a picture I toke in Dharavi, Bombay. Once a year all kiteflyers come up on the roofs and fight to death, cutting each others' rope. Only the slickest survives. favelapainting's website

So, haven't posted shit in a bit, so get ready for a doozy. Last weekend the NY Comicon hit the Javitz Center and just happened to take full advantage of the TTL buyers pass. Right as I walk in, I spot this beauty... Nice gloss finish, definitely an original. Where is he? Where is he.... A-ha!!! OBEY playa! Oh snap, the debut of Urban Voice Comics. Whattup Roca Raida part 2! Keep spinnin' them R&B joints for the next gen. Damn, do you know about this show Heroes? Its the only one I watch pretty religiously and I don't even have a TV(thanks Bit Torrent) Here are some beautiful portraits of some of the stars. I see you lookin' Lemon-Red. Afro Samarai. I tried to stay non-music related but RZA's downtempo - samarai beats are meh. The animation and the new toy line on the other hand, are buffed. First Hollertronix 6 and now this. Didn't know that Money Studies made such an impact. Although Sloth is the only one pictured, they're releasing all the characters soon. Beautiful resin casts waiting for final approval. Its Flav-o-rama! Your own reality show is one thing, but having your own urban vinyl toy? That's official. You don't see the White Rapper Serch toy yet, but now that I typed it, it's probably halfway into production. Speaking of Flav, he left his mufuckin' homie Chuck D stranded saying he was stuck in traffic! That's the lamest NY excuse I've heard. You can't live here you're whole life and expect that one to work. Here's Snackmaster givin' it up to the man himself. Yo Lloyd, look who's trying to bite' yo steez. You will always see people in hero gear, but when you see a triple Spiderman + Black Cat in a photo shoot pose-fest, its too epic. Black Cat lookin' kinda hot tho! And of course comics, riiight. Got plenty of those. Instead of running through all my nerdy picks, lemme show you some horrid comic titles of yesteryear that will never again see the light of day. Perfect example. And last but not least, this one's for the DJ's. And I'm out!
