after killing Studio B the night before, the Egyptian Lover and his brother Jamie Jupiter came by the Lab Manhattan for an in-store set. I thought EL would just play records, but he was pulling out all the tricks like playing 2 records backwards at the same time, while keeping beat for an entire song.

EL was super-nice, he did a record signing after his set. that's justin, who along with josh re-up, put the whole EL weekend together. congrats to Justin on his bday and scoring the gig as APT's new musical director. (plug: we will have signed EL albums on the site this week).

good seeing some old lab faces there. this is Dave Tompkins, known to lab-heads as the dude who wrote those mad genius, stream of consciousness reviews on the site a few years back. he's working on a book about the history of vocoders, look for it in the fall.
