It seems that women just want to play with my feelings.

For real.

In other news...

What's the new summer look going to be; sexual disco circa Cerrone or old school hip hop circa Kool Moe Dee? In any scenario, whatever mine or yours may be, gator skin loafers are a must. It’s time to get your summer body in check.

The Rub San Francisco was at a dancehall / hip-hop party in a GULLY neighborhood in San Francisco. But it was packed and a ton of our people came out. This is XJ (Local 1200), Cosmo and DJ Fuze (Digital Underground/Tupac/Luniz) with King Most and some other folks in the background.

The Turntablelab instore in LA was fun. He we are with Tony out in the streets.

He we are in the store with the homie DJ Pubes. Blu Jemz got the gasface for being in the studio the whole time we were in LA.

Brother Reade, Bobby Evans, DJ Feadz & Uffie (Ed Banger) got the crowd good and sweaty before we went on at Cinespace in LA. Feadz (middle) MURDERS it on Pioneer CDJs.

Roxy was in the building! Our fam gets around - she had an Oxy Cottontail show in LA the same night we rocked and came over afterwards to dance.

Them Jeans (L) promotes and DJs at Cinespace with Steve Aoki every Tuesday, and he put us on at his party. He kills it on every level.

I smashed my Serato records at the end of the night and one of them miraculously formed the Wu-Tang symbol. This is a sign that we have to play all Wu-Tang at Canal Room on Saturday (with El Michels Affair - the synergy is amazing).

to continue the spirit of Pauls attempted robbery, my digital camera was just stolen from the venue where I built this indoor golf course. Its not that big a deal, BUT, it was at this event, for golf types/yuppies/wall street coke heads/corporate climbin snivilin asswipes, and the camera was crispy new (canon sd 600), full with a gig of new photos, i put it down for a minute, and some douche stole it! Is he now sitting in his cubicle like "heh, i'm awesome?" It took me about 20 minutes to get over it, i walked around in circles, and then went home. But the funs not over yet. I board the A train, put on the headphones, and zone out. wait- is the guy next to me really READING a porn? full color, on a full train? I start laughing, then on lookers start looking at me and laughing. but i should chill cause he's probably a crackhead. But I figure its now or never to get a flick. hey, wait I've got a camera on my phone! and i dont know how to use it! So I stand up, secretly point it at porno man, and it makes a loud simulated shutter "KA-KLICK!!!" Thanks Verizon! Long story short-people started leaving their seats, I got the pic, and my man kept on reading. pic has to be coming soon.

coming out of the corner store, i made eye contact with a gentleman.
although i normally (seriously) get mistaken for an undercover, tonight i guess my look was transparent.
as i walked past this eye contact guy, i hear him go "give me your fucking money!", and wheel around in pursuit.
i ignored him until i heard him getting louder and closer.
i saw i had the crosswalk light and i dropped into 100 meter highschool track mode. i heard the guy call me a "pussy" from half a block away....but i was OUT, and i still have my wallet! brrrroooklyn!!!!!!!!!

so i just got back from the Magic Tradeshow in Vegas...
the Streetwear boom is in full effect, the most buzz was surrounding Magic's "streetwear" section...
1) everybody and their momma's momma has a t-shirt line
2) there are more terrible lines than quality ones
3) fronting is prevalent
4) all-over is running on fumes
5) but through it all, more companies means more selection, I also saw the most quality stuff that I've seen at Magic... look for a bunch of new lines hitting the lab pages this spring.

i didn't take any pictures of the madness, I'm sure you know where to go for those...

here's me and stony's side of vegas...

lv-sportsbook.jpg

i don't care if you hate sports or tv, sportsbooks are breath-taking. it's like you're god and you have every sporting event at your call, complete with instantly updated lines. we got there too late to bet on anything, so we just sat and oogled at the many screens while eating pastrami sandwiches... next year, we have to hit march madness.

lv-fight.jpg
after the sportsbook, stony hit the tables while I wandered around the casino (i don't play blackjack anymore, I think I'm cosmically unlucky at it). I went to hit the bathroom and these 2 burly guys were wrestling at the entrance. I thought they were just playing, but dudes started punching each other in the face. still, I didn't know what was going on, it was like slow motion punches. then, in one blow, one dude knocked out the other, and kept punching him... at this point, I thought to myself: "this would be awesome for the blog!" and took this picture. shit never seemed real until dude was on the ground bleeding. everyone around me just stood there watching... dude hijacked it out of there, and all that was left was a blood stain and some teeth on the ground...

lv-crazyhorse2.jpg
I had heard rumors that the mighty Crazy Horse Too had fallen off, but I have had so many excellent times there I had to go see it for myself... it's true, the place is not what it once was, but it's still way better than anything in nyc. it took me and stony a good hour to get comfortable, but by the end, we were dragging each other out.

lv-tera.jpg
at magic, you're bound to see some stars promoting their lines... this one was too incredible to pass up... Tera Patrick touched me!

echeng-nyc2007-3.jpg
and I'm not one to floss about celebrity photos, but this one is too cool... met Mikhail Baryshnikov. look for the upcoming money studies collabo....

florence.jpg
and last but not least, got to give a shout to my cab driver, who took me from newark back to the city... he was an old italian man, who had moved here 6 years ago. we got to talking about life, and he told me about how his family business went under and he was forced to drive this cab to support his kids through college... I asked him if he was going back after they graduated, and he replied: "of course..." I asked why, and he dropped this jewel on me: "italians work to live, people here work to die..." (typed as I am sitting in the office at 11pm, ha-ha....)

Despite what Lloyd thinks, I really did end up in Chicago this weekend, thanks to everyone's favorite car company. They put me up in the W, where I made 4 phone calls, and had a complimentary voss water for only $45. Dinner was nice, courvoisier tasting, entertainment by Second City and... well... painted scion doors by today's hottest street artists. I heart corporate-strategic-tastemaker-branding-added-value-marketing-budgets. Strug and Lori got the beef.

The Rub instore at Turntable Lab in Los Angeles, Tuesday Feb 20 from 7 to 9 PM. Then Cinespace with Steve Aoki and Them Jeans.

When we're on tour we average about 5 hours of sleep per night. A typical day is wake up at 10, get to airport by 12, land at 4 and drop our bags off at the hotel, eat something and go to soundcheck at 7, dj from 11-3, get paid by 4 and try to go to sleep by 5. That doesn't sound too bad until you do it every day for weeks on end. I know, boo hoo.

Smalltown DJs own a club, a clothing and record store, a shoe store, and a record label in Calgary. We went out for two weeks with them last year on the Northern Exposure tour through all of Canada plus Brooklyn and Philly, and in March they are coming down to SXSW in Austin and WMC in Miami, plus a gig in DC. They are the funniest dudes I know. Mike (left) was gooned in this picture.

In Alberta they were selling brass animals on the side of the road. L-R Smalltown Pete aka Canadian Football Pete, Cosmo "Cook Coffee" Baker, and me, the Little Man of Hate.

In Billings, our dude Jimi Scott got a Rub banner done up at Kinko's. I left it on a plane roughly 10 hours after he gave it to us. So far we have lost a cell phone, a microphone, an M-Audio digital recorder, a Money Studies roller bag (which was recovered broken), a whole bunch of CDs, and I'm sure some other shit I'm forgetting.

Still it's all worth it. I can't imagine doing anything else for a living.

Some pictures from Edmonton here. All tour dates here.

It's hard to come after Lloydski

This is Matias aka Melchezz aka swissmister. Sorry I'm not a DJ. Pete just made me honorary fellow of turntablelab. I made a profession out of getting lost in cities around the world. Right now I'm lost in Mumbai doing research on Dharavi, an informal settlement with the highest density level I have ever experienced. A walk through the streets of Dharavi makes Hong Kong feel like US suburbia.

I'll post stuff once in a while that will probably be completely unrelated to turntablism, sports and whatever this blog is about. I've been checking out this blog regularly for some time although I lost a little bit of interest after ROC got kicked out. I thought he was bringing a lot of sense to it all. Another thing I share with ROC is my bad command of English grammar so expect many spelling mistakes from me.

Back soon with more adventures

I get a lot of mail. Either it's the fact that i'm a registered Democrat, or the fact that the bills at my place are all in my name. Maybe the magazines i subscribe to sold my info. i don't know. But nothing i get in the mail is more frustrating than the infrequent communication i receive from my sponsored child, Elmer, a small boy in Honduras.
About 3 years ago, on MLK day, i was walking down Broadway and got stopped by some enthusiastic NYU student, armed with a clipboard and a decent pitch. She told me that often young boys are the last to be sponsored, and wouldn't i like to help out someone less fortunate than myself? Sure, i said, taking a look at a picture of Elmer, who i swear was no older than 8 years old. Tell me why the last correspondence i received, persuading me to drop an extra 30 bucks on an Easter gift, i look at the little player's stats, and my man is friggin 15 years old!!!! i mean, shit, i'm sure he could use the money, but this MAN has a starter 'stache. i feel like such a chump. Dear friends, don't get swindled like your boy P. The kid needs to get a damn job. Screw you, "Children International". Change your name!

The Cannonball Rub is in full swing. So far we did Orlando, Austin and Atlanta, and then swung through Mississippi for a little R&R (rodeo and relaxation). This week we have Dallas, Calgary, Billings, San Francisco and LA. All tour dates here

The club in Orlando was nuts. Amazing sound, big room, fun indie dance crowd. The first three parties have all been packed and really fun.

In Austin we had BBQ with DJ Mel and DJ Kurupt before the gig.

Bavu Blakes and Rapid Ric came through and partied with us.

Rapid Ric brought us Whut It Dew 4 CDs and promo hats! That's DJ Mel in the middle.

Swoll is Mel’s monthly party dedicated to booty bass, house, club and fast shit.

In ATL we learned that you can get a giant poster printed at Kinko’s for $7.

We ate at Ruby Tuesdays in East Point, ATL. It was right after church got out so folks were really dressed up. It was this lady’s birthday and she had money pinned to her lapel.

The Dixie National Rodeo in Jackson Mississippi was bananas. The bullriding was next level and a clown jumped a motorcycle over a tractor trailer. The announcer sounded just like Wolfman Jack, and at one point he said that “Scott tractors git ‘er done!”

you're stuck in a booth, while everyone else is getting wasted, getting f-ed over by club owners and promoters... the saving grace is that you get to experience that addictive, crowd-response-induced, internal chemical rushes that normal people don't get to experience, but that's it... unless you are in it for the cash bonus like Roc or Stress... or Skribble...

The Rub was this past Saturday at Southpaw. This is DJ Eleven & Cosmo Baker. Jazzy hands!

DJ Premier came through and rocked with us. He was our surprise guest. Nobody in the crowd knew he was gonna be there. That's me on the right.

Primo was real heavy on the mic, hyping up the crowd with each song. He played for an hour and a half and the club was complete pandamonium.

Cool Disco MC Spankrock came to party but he was happy to do a song.

Shake it til my dick turns racist!

Nick Chacona killed it with house and reggae in the basement. Huge thanks to Mark Lowyns, and apologies to everyone who didn't get in (come earlier next time!). Check all the pictures

We're on the road again for two weeks. San Francisco, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Austin, Dallas, Edmonton, Calgary, Billings & Orlando, consider yourselves warned! All tour dates here

after killing Studio B the night before, the Egyptian Lover and his brother Jamie Jupiter came by the Lab Manhattan for an in-store set. I thought EL would just play records, but he was pulling out all the tricks like playing 2 records backwards at the same time, while keeping beat for an entire song.

EL was super-nice, he did a record signing after his set. that's justin, who along with josh re-up, put the whole EL weekend together. congrats to Justin on his bday and scoring the gig as APT's new musical director. (plug: we will have signed EL albums on the site this week).

remember this? yes, stony's a man of many fads. this pic is from the fall when he was getting into "lap swimming while listening to underwater headphones" phase. i think it lasted 2 weeks. stony's latest venture is boxing. he's started training at the world famous Gleason's gym right down the block from our office. World famous might be an understatement, champs like Ali, Foreman, Frazier, Spinks, Holmes, and even Iron Mike have trained there. From all indicators, this fad seems to be sticking, so much so that Stony took me and the production squad out to the edge of brooklyn to watch Golden Gloves fights.

the fights took place in an old high school gym.

i had never seen live boxing before. there's a crazy energy about it. everytime somebody gets clocked, you can't help but make grunting noises... the whole crowd does it in unison. we were lucky to catch several knockouts, that's crazy energy. this one had us jumping out of our seats.

boxing-bowlcut.jpg
the locals around us were betting each other on every fight. since these boxers were novices, there's no background info to base your bets on. one dude simply yells out "i like blue," and the betting partner usually takes it. me and stony put a five spot on this one, and stony took the "white dude." i thought it was an easy win for me (i got the black dude with flashy metallic gold trunks), but it turned out this guy was ukranian or polish. don't bet against these type of dudes, they're tough. plus he had this crazy bowl-cut trainer who would do this crazy towel fan technique between rounds.

boxing-ringcardgirls.jpg
yes, they even had ring card girls. this particular one had the pro-squad in a stymy.

boxing-routine.jpg
did i mention they had a dj there too? he'd play the hottest party breaks in between rounds. and the best part? the intermission dance routine. this photo does no justice, these girls were on fire....

see you at the next fight...

Last night was bananas. Pyramid shaped swimming pools and blue lemonade was the icing on the cake. The Egyptian Lover was just what NYC needed. I had almost forgotten how terrible the weather was i.e. cold and raining. Round 2 tonight at Trouble and Bass...
