Best New Order song; "Temptation." "Released on 12" and 7" vinyl, both formats had the catalogue number FAC 63. The two formats are not merely different mixes, but entirely separate recordings of the same song. The 7" version is a more structured version with a commercial synthpop feel; the 12" is more chaotic with the emphasis on electronic rhythms rather than melody. The 7" version plays at 33.3rpm to accommodate its length of around five and a half minutes. Interestingly, the 7" version has a cold start and a fade-out at its end, and the 12" version has a fade-in at its start, with a cold end. As a result, a popular rumour among New Order fans that to experience the complete "Temptation", one has to paste together the 7" and 12" versions, so there is a cold start and a cold end. Despite the speculation, the band has never confirmed this to be true. The vocal track on the original 12" version (this is the version featured in the 'Retro' box-set) features an audible scream during the song's intro. Supposedly, as Bernard Sumner was recording the vocals, other band members ran into the studio and thrust a snowball down his shirt."

I did a little record shopping this weekend although I only bought two things. As far as record collecting goes I’ve gotten pretty serious lately. There are a few pieces of vinyl I’ll drop a pretty penny for if I can get something in near mint condition. Import Whispers singles and OG Smiths presses are pretty serious right now with me. I went to Academy Records in the city. Everyone in there was a total nerd or European (nerd) and basically paying way too much for shit you can find at The Thing or Vortex out in Greenpoint if you dig hard enough. Fuck that shit, I don’t mind putting on the latex gloves and using hand cleaner looking for old disco and new wave singles. Other Music was a little wack but I did find a Orchestral Manoeuvers in the Dark that I didn’t have. “Almost” might be my favorite OMD song of all time. Shout out to Lab blog beefers, basically this is the only shit that makes me laugh besides my everyday life. Also, Kevin/Stress needs to start blogging. Can someone please repress some LEGIT Clash singles? Basically I want an original, instrumental, and acapella for “Lost in the Supermarket.” Please.

We're HAPPY for you that you can eat $ 200 sushi dinners..........but you don't have to lash out ANY of us just to prove that you've become a caricature ( any imitation or copy so distorted or inferior as to be ludicrous) of your own humble beginnings. I have MEDIORCRE DJing gigs in the CITY. I’m in talks right now about my first big hotel/bar gig right now like other past Lab employees. WHATEVER THIS IS THE BASIS OF WHY I NEED AN INTER. Can't believe someone had the ballz to admit to listening to the new Sean Lennon album. It's probably a lot more common in LA than here... and by "here," I mean the Turntable Lab office, where I keep my headphones low to mask my secret shameful daily listenings. (I'm scared to look in iTunes and see how many times I've played Bow Wow & Omarion - "Let Me Hold You.") Anyway, yeah, this album is pretty cool... not as good as Into The Sun and it kinda falls off after the first half, but as faux Elliott Smith albums by sons of Beatles go, it's basically #1. Is he still plugging ol' girl from Cibo Matto? Shuuuugaaaa waaaataaaaaaahhhh....

okay, done with dinner... more stuff to think about: you're only as good as your money man. make sure you or one of your partners is willing AND capable of handling the company's finances (paying bills, accounting, checking numbers twice, hunting people down who owe you money, tactfully avoiding people trying to collect money, getting loans, advanced math). depending on the size of your business, this is usually a full-time job. if you don't have anyone in your group that can do this, find someone you trust before proceeding. you should think in solid business terms and definitions as soon as possible. this is inevitable if your business succeeds, but the earlier you think about it, the more potential problems you will avoid. we did the head down thing for a couple years, and a couple of unfortunate lessons that we crashed into helped us change our ways. there is a reason why people go to business school. don't let me dissuade you from the grind. once you've mastered it, it's a very fulfilling thing. it becomes its own growing thing, and you just have to direct it somewhere and make sure it runs smoothly. okay, enough... ps. an awesome show to learn business lessons

okay, i am by no means a business or economics master, but I would consider myself, somewhat of a homegrown retail expert. starting your own business without formal training is an enlightening and humbling process. the first mixer we sold was purchased with a stolen credit card (duh, so that's what the red "N" means?). I still remember dude's email... Betadays... another duh story is about margins. I think for our first month of existence, we were calculating price margins wrong, which means that we were pricing shit wrong. we'll for all you people that want to enter the pseudo-glam world of boutiques and online shops, here's my personal experience with margins (don't quote me on this shit, but in my experience this is valid stuff). price margins appear to have an indirect but strong correlation with grind (hustling, working your ass off, all-niters). if your margins are 75% or below, you're probably grinding your ass off. ever see those luxury goods boutiques (stress luxury) where the workers and owner are just chilling with a couple things for sale? he or she probably has some nice margins. sell one thing, cover your rent for the day. if it doesn't move, slash it in half, and sell it on sale while still making nice margins. The lower your margin, the more you have to sell, manage, and push. What about Tower? Low margins (probably around 25-40% at best), tons of products, tons to manage, tons of employees, tons of overhead.... The Grind killed them.... therefore, if you want to get into the retail biz, I really suggest checking out your potential margins. look for areas where you can offset low-margin goods like creating your own goods that you've produced or offering services. but if you're hovering around 50% or below, get ready for A GRIND THAT YOU HAVE NEVER KNOWN. tings: i thought i was going to write more, but i'm hungry. the dream-smasher ps. not salty, just lookin out.

I have a lot of ideas and sometimes I just with there was someone there to write shit down for me. You know? Stipend: 10 dollars a day plus lunch and travel. JESUS! The one day i decide to leave the heat at home New york is fucking brick (really really cold). What happened to global warming? We need to get on that. Im a tropical people. you shouldve seen me making moves in shorts and hoodie. mad ashy. had to buy new clothes and shit! Speaking of heat, last summer i was djing alot to the point where my sleeping schedual had completely reversed. Sunlight became a thing of the past and my nights were spent coming up with new and exciting ways to kill time. Ever seen the Lord of the Rings trilogy back to back? I have! Anyway, from one of thos many killing sessions came this. A half ass mix of Gogo music you probably wont like. There's no baltimore club, mash ups, balie funk, ironic remixes or undancable disco. Buzz kill right!? enjoy, and for thos who wanna complain about how slow "sardines" is i apologize. pitch control is a relative term at 730 in the morning.

we got some new fixtures at the LA store this week. there so much space there, we don't know what to do with it... it's the complete opposite of our nyc store, where we have to use every inch of wall space to show the product (seen the new cd racks?). the feeling of the two stores is completely different. I like the openess, light, and relaxed vibe of the LA store, but there's also something about the dynamics of the manhattan spot that LA will never come close too. i hate to wet our own whistle, but it's one of the few places left in the east village that has that old buzzy feeling about it. other places that i feel the buzz in the village oh, and while we're riding the lloydski, roc, woodman wave on the blog,

This will probably be the only time you see me do a sports post, but I happened to catch the Met's game last night. Holy crap. Although I don't really know the team, I do know that this wonderful crazy city loves them to death and vicarious bliss they give is something to behold. Everyone from thugs to sweet ol' grandma's care. Anyways the shit was too epic as you already know, classic storybook style. Tied 3 games each, bottom of 9th, Met's down by 2, bases loaded, 2 outs...... then a the biggest anti-climatic strike out ever. Snack tells me everyone at the local diner this morning was pissed, grumpy, and moral sucked. What a diarrhea dookie of a nice try.

Yo Pop Rocks and all you other bootleg records that lock the beat and put 8 bar intros on everything, here's a wishlist (I also invite anyone to add to this list): Violent Femmes: Blister, Kiss Off, Add it Up By the way, the music videos for INXS and "Your Love" by the Outfield are extended versions. If you youtube them there's like an extra 8 bars on them already. If you guys are really horny to get that extra guitar riff, you can burn them off the videos...

We need 8 bar intros on the Pietasters, the Toasters, Let's Go Bowling, Mephiskapheles, the Skoidats, the Suicide Machines, Op Ivy, etc. (I could literally go on listing 3rd wave ska groups forever)

ha So because i dont have cable, like many of you i sit around and watch "on demand" when ever im at my mothers house. I catch up on my shows, past Oprahs, the occassional b movie and my music videos. The more i do this the more i realize how out of touch i am. This was never more evident then last week when i was back home watching the Mtv Video Music Awards with my feet up. Now, i realize watching Mtv is know real gauge of whats going on but...well...it kinda is cus theres more people that do watch it then dont. two things i learned. one. reasonable people actually like Chamillionare. like alot! hes kind of a superstar two. GUYS THAT LOOK LIKE THIS....
AND THIS....
ARE IN THE RUNNING FOR THE WORST DUDES EVER. what the fuck! there music blows and the niggas dress like theyre from the future. is this what people listen to in real life? i mean seriously, all you people out there need to salute turntable lab cus without them this is probably what youd be into. mark my words. me on the other hand? Id still be deuce'n on these niggas! on that note i leave you with this. not a picture but a song.... always, ...i just did

I like how Andy's pic is so big it bursts through the design constraints of the blog. Andy you and Lloyd both owe me hundreds of dollars. I want it to buy clothes. Also, I just came back from Katz's on 2nd and they were filming a Sopranos scene there with noted jew-character Hesh. Nerdily, I was less impressed with the fact that this was happening than the fact that I was geeking about the level of competence of the production team. They were all "last looks!" and I'm thinking "I just found out what that means like 2 weeks ago." Now I need to take a dump. I also just seriously gorged out with Kevin and Andy at Houston's the other night on some ribs. That also made me take a dump in about an hour. Also, apparently Kevin now wears leather jackets and Andy wears hoodies with fur on the inside of them and literally gold chains coming out of the drawstrings. What else. If you haven't seen the Departed yet you are a fool. Never in my life did I think that Irish ska-punk (is that like Flogging Molly or the Dropkick Murphys or something) would make me pump my fist in the air. Also, I just finished the Chuck Klosterman book IV. Theory about this guy is that before this book, he had 3 books. It doesn't matter what order you read them in. The first one you read you'll enjoy and think he's really clever, just like you, a well of pop culture references, etc. The second one you read is mildly irritating. The third one you read will make you throw the book across the room in complete and utter disgust. The fourth one is actually pretty good.

Being Boston born and raised, I'm a little apprehensive to say anything about any sports team, for fear of jinxing some shit... but I know in my heart that old T-Glav can git-r-done for the Metroids tonight. Here's to hoping, suffering and goddamned Bill Buckner!

everyone always complains about how new york is getting cleaned up and all its character is getting washed away by $4000 one bedrooms and health food stores... if you want a taste of the funk, head over to sixth ave and west 4th. there's an disgustingly awesome row of stores there: a tobacco/bong shop, a Taco Bell/KFC combo restaurant, a low-level tattoo/piercing shop, a sex toy shop, and the knock-off Papaya King hot dog place (you can actually see Gray's Papaya from there, they were having pricing wars last summer). On any given night, there's tons of craziness here. Lots of thugs, even more homo-thugs, homeless dudes peddling magazine back issues, change hustlers... the funny thing is that everyone has to walk through here to get to the row of 3 star restaurants one block away, joe's pizza around the corner, or the west 4th subway stop. IFC opened up a big theater on the block, thinking it would spark gentrification, but that place is losing. I can't imagine it staying open much longer.
