Hey I just felt like I needed to say this for all my people out there... 1. Watching TV is for losers, Getting hyped to watch a TV series could be the gayest thing ever, who could think that Prision Break, or lost was worth 55 minn of your life? I mean really? 2. WHAT THE FUCK IS FANTASY FOOTBALL? If your like me youve been asking yourself this for years. I mean really what the fuck is fantasy football? I think Its like some complicated way for total losers to spend their time during the fall....... "Hey your life sucks cock and you have some shithole office job so here play this bullshit game that is essentally D&D for jocks instead of killing yourself...." 3. Baseball caps are for children................ If your over 25 you should not wear a baseball cap you look like a jerk off.......

No disrespect to 2600, but I gotta take issue with his declaration. Al Swearengen is the motherfucking BOSS, and Deadwood is easily the best show running right now... except the season just ended. But not to fear: The Wire starts up again on Sunday, and HBO will maintain its stranglehold on all television everywhere. Oh yeah, and Lost is back in October:

slowly growing rumor going around is that Carlos Tevez might join Arsenal. that would be incredible, Tevez and Henry in the same attack? that might be one of the finest examples of the beautiful-ugly, ever. for those who don't about this Argentine, he's an incredible player who did the unthinkable by winning over the rival Brasilians while playing for the Corinthians. according to my Argentine friend Belizan, before the World Cup, Brasilians were actually considering supporting the Argentinian team, just because of Tevez. he plays hard and fast as hell and his face looks like a post-reconstructive surgery (using some monkey parts) after a knife fight (him and Ribery prolly 2 ugliest mugs in futbol). hope this happens, I know Roctakon is holding his breath.

I was looking around for gear reviews the other day and came accross this site. Pretty informative and way less serious than most of these types of sites... then I checked the front page and they had all these awesome youtube links and crazy gear head / music nerdery going on... which I was just gonna steal and post on the blog as my own "finds." But they've got too much shit. Every single post is a nugget of wtf hilarious, informative, or just fucking cool. Here's a sampling of things you'll find:

had my fantasy draft this weekend. it's our 5th year doing this particular league so it's pretty heated. highlights included Herbolich wearing a Juicy Couture jump suit to the draft (then getting denied entry into a bar cause "they don't allow jumpsuits") and Carter picking Antowain Smith in the third round (same dude picked a Derrick Alexander in the third round a year after Derrick retired). here's a snapshot of my team (there's 16 teams in the league, so the talent pool thins out quick). go skins!

came across this illustration while digging for stuff to put up on my new site. back in our guerilla marketing days of handing out kinko flyers at dj battles, I used this illustration on a flyer to get across one of our original goals of starting the lab, which was to battle the shady Canal Street stereo stores that continually tried to rip us off. These greasy salesmen would give you Technics 1200 at $400s each (going rate back then was about $450-475), then overcharge you on a shitty mixer or crappy needles. I used to get into a lot of stupid negotiations when I had to go buy replacement stylii pre-Lab days. On the other hand, it was definitely a cool barrier to entry back in the days. You had to grind it out to get your setup back then... now all you have to do is order a dj-in-a-box set....

CBS studios is the shit, I think. All times of the day there is something popping off, you can hear it over the loudspeakers outside. When I walk to work there are troops of half-enthused middle aged women who pretty much own that strip of sidewalk, and they are repping hard with The Price is Right name tags. What they get into after they get out of the show, I really don’t know, but whatever they do, I’m guessing they rock it pretty hard. I’ll walk home at 2am and whole families will be posted up on the sidewalk, lawnchairs and snacks, waiting to be on the next show. I feel their focus. Today is officially my last day working for TTL. It’s truly been an adventure. Thanks Turntablelab Fam for all the knowledge and experience. I appreciate every bit of it! Thanks again! Later! -Drewzy

Whoa, I'm kinda into the flying yoga squad, but it unfortunately reminds me of that group the Polyphonic Spree. Yes. There it is. The first mention of the Polyphonic Spree since 2003.
What the fuck was their deal anyway? Did anyone ever figure out if they were actually a real cult or not or were we all just hoping they were a cult so there would be something microscopically interesting about them? I mean, how did this band NOT have ulterior motives? Look at this guy:
Aside from the Koreshian aspect of the "band," the only cool thing about them was their logo:
...but then once you find out that it's jacked from Herb Lubalin's The Sound of Music logo, that whole theory is out the window.
So yeah, fuck those guys.

Listening to Shackleton's Skull Disco record in the warehouse makes me think of some Natural Wonders soundtrack cuz its so peaceful and meditative. It also made me think of these guys, a early memory from my junior college days back in Cali. These yogic flyer dudes held an assembly in the main auditorium, talking about flying and levitating through yoga. One look at the flyer made me go,"Bullshit," so naturally I went to check them out. What came next BLEW MY FRICKIN' MIND. I must've walked in at the high point, because they just finished their breifing and mission statement and then started hopping up and down like some kung fu frogs in lotus position. Dudes were getting air too, at least knee high. Everyone was laughing and losing their shit but they kept on hopping. The entire scenario was too surreal. Anyways, they never flew or meditated, what a bummer. I later found out on their website that they were only in stage one flying, which is the only stage they show at the demos. To quote the homepage: "Stage Two is flying through the air for a short time. Stage Three is complete mastery of the sky." Stage three, I'm feeling that. Stay Fly muffugas.

just got back from a week in rhode island for a week relaxation and important business. rented a house with a bunch of friends, and basically ate the entire time. aside from food, drinking, and the beach, there's nothing to do here, which is how vacations should be... this is the area's signature dish, clam cakes and chowdah. rhode island chowdah is definitely my favorite... it's not creamy and thick like the kind you get in restaurants, it's more like broth with a touch of milk. as for clam cakes, they're fried balls of goodness. if your in narragansett, go to the Starboard Galley, the ideal waterfront clamshack.
next, this place is probably one of the best seafood restaurants in the world. they wood grill lobsters in an open kitchen... and they serve the best linguini with clams I've ever had.

So this may be old news for those of you more connected with whatever streets this kinda shit takes place on, but I was reading Murder Dog for I think the first time ever last night and saw an ad and a brain cell-destroyingly awfully written review of an album by a group called Zhinin. The schtick seems to be a cross between Insane Clown Posse, Marilyn Manson, and Quad City DJs. Ladies (oh who am I kidding? Do ladies even read this?) and gentlemen, I give you... ZHININ!
Go to the website and listen to the music. It makes this whole thing even harder to comprehend. This is like Dungeons & Dragons / Strip Club / Beavis & Butthead / Sci-Fi Porn / Cosmic Frat Party Rap. I wish I had an image of the actual ad to post here cause it would blow your fucking minds. It's like the dude with the purple face paint completely naked with a black "censored" type bar over his wang and he's leaning up against a wooden stool and there was like a blond white girl lying on the floor maybe reading a book in front of him. But if you really wanna see it, it's right near the back cover inbetween 50 different "THIZZ IS IT!!!" compilation ads in the newest issue of Murder Dog with Project Pat on the cover.

So Diplo and the Bonde Do Role folks stopped by the LA store for a quickie dj set and little freestyle thing yesterday afternoon before their downtown LA show. It started at 5 so disregard the sparse attendance; anyway it was kinda nice to do a mellow in store that didnt go until 11pm and wreck the place. Marina and the Bonde guys were real cool, and she still puts on a crazy show with her arm all discombobulated. AND check those two at 00:45. Classic. Thanks to Chris, Wes, and Brahma beer for the freebos. Brahma in the afternoon sun was not a bad thing. Willow filming, Frogman's camera.

Seriously. Ok, so I just moved this past Saturday. I’m no longer in Queens. I now reside in the L.E.S. My room is now really small though so I’m basically living on top of a ton of records. If any of you confused lab blog readers want to buy any records holler at me (drpitts “at” gmail.com).Gabber/Hardcore/House/Pop/80’s/Drom and Bass/Downtempo/Whatever… I went through a lot of musical phases though my teens and within the past few years. I turn 25 in a few weeks I need to get my act together. Oh and by the way I saw Kathleen Turner the other day at the Mac store. She’s still actually kind of hot, but not “Serial Mom” hot though. Also, live Warrant LP releases are seriously hurting my wallet right now. Who knew that shit would be so hard to find. I’m currently working on a Warrant mixtape. Be prepared (It was basically either Warrant or Ratt but Warrant has a lot more variety in my opinion). P.S. The song “Victim of a Crime” off of Phoenix’s second album is my current jam.

The Production Squad here at lab consists of Snackmaster, Lemon-Red, and myself. Lemon's out right now, touring on a bus overflowing with Brazilian girls right now, namely CSS and Bonde Do Role, so Snack and I are holding it down, giving you that daily. Here's a sneak peak at what makes our work seem like home.
P-Love gave this little ditty to the Frogman , but has since been passed on to me, when the frogman, bounced to the left coast. The green post-it actually reads, "For all audio complaints, pull barrell." For all those who don't know, the barrell hides a hugely unproportional third leg that salutes all who fall victim.
Promo only. Vanilla scented. Who wants to be caught ridin' stanky?
This was sent to us by one of our favorite artists, Jason Jagel, of the Dudley Perkins and MM Food cover fame. He rocks. This thing is fucking great. During a three day frenzied cleaning of the warehouse, I came up on this archeological relic from the height of the Turntablist era. Its about 5 times the size of your normal 45 adaptor and ten times as heavy. Consider it a medicine ball for skratching. Guess it beats having to carry around one of those finger muscle builders, which in public gives off that "I'm a pyschotic strangler" vibe.
Ever wonder how Snackmaster got his name? This ration box contains some of the most delicious goodies one can get, and I sit right next to him. Butter nut popcorn with macadamias, gummi cherries, garlic cracker nuts, garlic flavored cornick (which kicks cornnuts ass, cause they're lighter and more potent), and Regal Dynasty Delight's cookies with soft cream and raspberry centre. I wont encroach on Snack's treasure box, but every now and then while I'm sweating trying to put up records for ya'll, I'll get a tap on a shoulder with an open bag held in front of me, and a "yo dude." Respect.

our good friend Willystyle, aka the Korean-American Psycho, got hitched last weekend. destination: park city, utah. this is where they have sundance every year (remember the scene from entourage?), plus the olympics a few years back. beautiful place in the summer, highly recommended. rehearsal dinner? all you can down chicken & ribs. solid choice. here, your hero wolfs down a 3 ribber. ph and boy genius continued their quest for brotherhood belts (currently PH holds all the belts except for ESPN Zone football toss) with a new event, the alpine slide. this is basically a luge type track all the way down an intermediate hill. this event ended on a tie, a first in the epic series.
the reception was DJ'ed and MC'ed by Boy Genius. this guy has the best wedding mic presence I've ever heard. he killed the crowd with witty jokes, timely rewinds (who does that a wedding?), and a fierce 80s finale. holler at him for your next function: hahnpaul (at) gmail.com. BG was so good, that Willystyle's dad went completely MC Hammer. now we see where Willy gets it. Jando, aka the poor man's Tom Cruise, ripped open his shirt during "Sweet Child O Mine" Who does this at their own wedding? Willystyle avec shades clears the dancefloor with beer spraying. I think this was during the night's climax: Kelly Clarkson's "Since You've Been Gone" aka the ultimate wedding song ever (second place: "Pour Some Sugar On Me")
after the show it's the Boy Genius afterparty. check out those poses, looks straight outta THE GRIND. the legend of Boy Genius lives on. that girl he's with is Moon, who ranked #53 on Maxim's Hot 100 List (not joking). Boy Genius strikes again! sandwich action. i found this dude back at our hotel. major drama with him and his girlfriend at the afterparty. somehow he ended up in the hallway, fully dressed with the remote control next to him. solid! fun times...

so much blogworthy shit has come my way lately...
Topping my list, as it has been for 11 years (since mid-1994) is Out Where the Lake Is (988.3 compatibility, twice as good than the next highest). My calculations show that I've listened to this song anywhere from 900,000 to 1,200,000 times (each loop is 63.5 seconds long at the average 76% true speed). Next up is Desert Zone (around 984 compatibility) which has anywhere from 300,000 to 600,000 plays. These are the two most listened to songs. This isn't a joke either. If you check my blog, for example, you can see that, when I get a new song, it'll often be played for several thousand times before I get bored of it and switch. See the "music" section for more details on this. Both of these songs are from "Bubsy in: Claws Encounters of the Furred Kind" (levels 10 and 7 (7 after the train)). In general, however, songs that are purely instrumental are the only types of songs I truly enjoy. The most- liked song that has lyrics is "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" - the oldies version in particular (at 932 compatibility, about 1/30 as good as my top favorite, or 56 times better than neutral, still very considerable).
